Topic: Kohlschreiber beats Djokovic in straights

Philipp Kohlschreiber beat Novak Djokovic 6-4, 6-4, 6-4 today. From the start of the match, it looked like Novak wasn't really there. This is a shock because Djokovic was playing probably the best on clay besides Nadal, and he took a set from Nadal in each of the 3 matches they played on clay this season, including a 4 hour epic where Novak had some match points but didn't come through. This really opens up the draw for either Roger Federer or Gael Monfils in my eyes. I think Monfils or Federer would now be favored to face Nadal in the finals.

Very disappointed sad I was so looking forward to watching Djokovic play again. Oh well, will have to wait a little while!

Sorry Nole - what a surprise early exit.

He peaked too early and left it all on court in that semi-final last week against Nadal

I was thinking the same thing, but if this was the case, shouldn't he have shown some vulnerability in the first two rounds? He was dominating Lapentti before he retired, and he dominated Stakhovsky. He didn't look tired to me during those matches, and at the start of the Kohlschreiber match he looked good, getting out to a 4-1 lead.He said he has a new fitness coach and that things are going really well, so I don't really get him. This is just me, but I don't think top players really take him seriously in terms of his fitness, and this is just another reason to add to that.

Re: Kohlschreiber beats Djokovic in straights

I thought he had worked on his fitness and made some big improvements - could this have been mental fatigue?

Re: Kohlschreiber beats Djokovic in straights

Well he'll have plenty of time to rest that weary brain if it was...
