Topic: YODA CUP Winner & Finalist Picks

As you might expect, on the men's side the only finalists picked by any members of the Yoda Cup crew are the top 4.

6 of us have Djokovic to win
3 Murray
2 Rafa
1 Fed (Arvis, of course).

8 votes each for Djokovic and Rafa in the final
4 votes each for Murray and Fed in the final.

The women's side is a totally different story.  Our group of 12 picked 7 winners!
3 Kvitova
3 Azarenka
2 Serena
1 Li, Clijsters, Radwanska and Stosur (sorry, Sophie).

We have 9 different finalists.
6 votes for Kvitova
5 for Azarenka
4 for Serena
3 for Li
2 for Kim
1 for Wozniacki, Radwanska, Sharapova and Stosur.

Once again, pretourney winner and finalist picks may well decide the Yoda Cup champion.  As someone who took Djokovic over Rafa and Kvitova over Azarenka, I didn't exactly stray from the pack, as it turns out.

Re: YODA CUP Winner & Finalist Picks

Sorry Don,but I must disagree with you.

I will beat you all in the Yoda Cup before the finals! big_smile

Edit:

No realy,it could easily come to the finalists and winner predictions.Becouse there are many good looking teams in the Yoda Cup,which showes that we are an elite competition on the GSFT! wink

Re: YODA CUP Winner & Finalist Picks

I notice that we have exactly the same women's team, Dragan, except I have Goerges and you have Kuznetsova.  Also, you have Azarenka over Kvitova in the final and I have Kvitova over Azarenka.

Hopefully we're onto something.

Re: YODA CUP Winner & Finalist Picks

Yeah,I noticed that too.
It will be interesting to see the finish in the prestigious Yoda Cup.

GO NOLE AND GO VIKA!!! smile

Re: YODA CUP Winner & Finalist Picks

There's no way Azarenka will win the Open. She's too volatile. But then, so is every other female player, so we'll just have to see. And I'm shocked, frankly, that more people think Murray will win than Rafa. What's up with that???

Re: YODA CUP Winner & Finalist Picks

Rafa has won the AO, but Murray has made the finals here more times than Rafa.  It's just one of those weird factoids that sticks in people's minds.

Re: YODA CUP Winner & Finalist Picks

Going to give a shout out for my Radwanska pick beacause it is totally going to be wrong but I like to be different.

Re: YODA CUP Winner & Finalist Picks

Makes sense Arvis, but I still resent people picking the likes of him over Rafa. He hasn't accomplished anywhere NEAR as much as Nadal has, in any regard, and people actually have the gall to predict that he'll do better?! Hmph. I hope they play and that Rafa crushes him. For the 14th time.

Dude, I have Radwanska on my team, too.  Why you dissin' me?

Re: YODA CUP Winner & Finalist Picks

I have her to win Arvis. To win the whole damn thing. Lol.

Re: YODA CUP Winner & Finalist Picks

Scotty has Radwanska to win.  Wolmas has Kim to win.  Arvis has Li to win.  Sophie has Stosur.

Charles has Sharapova in the final.  CrossCourt has Wozniacki in the final.

Lots of individualists.

Re: YODA CUP Winner & Finalist Picks

Oh.  I see. o_o

YOU NEVER KNOW!  Keep hope alive, Scotty!  Some part of me still thinks Zheng Jie can win this whole dang tournament.  But it will be enough for me if she just beats Bartoli in a couple days.

Re: YODA CUP Winner & Finalist Picks

When it comes to "out there" winner picks, Scotty is right to claim the honor -- along with Sophie, actually.

While 4 of the Yoda Cup crew were the only one to pick their women's winner, two people besides Arvis thought Li would make the final and one other person besides Thomas thought Kim would make the final.

Nobody but Scotty has Radwanska in the final, much less winning.  Likewise with Sophie's Stosur pick.  So far, so good, Scotty boy.

Re: YODA CUP Winner & Finalist Picks

It would mean huge point gain if she did happen to win. Which is I guess is good for me since I need a huge point shift to make a respectable finish. I don't think the pick is absolutely horrible considering how well she has played since the end of last year. If she catches these other women on a bad day or she plays her game well, she has a shot. Maybe not in the eyes of the oddsmakers, but who follows the odds anyways. Her match with Azarenka was relatively close in the warm up to the AO too.

Re: YODA CUP Winner & Finalist Picks

Pretty clearly Radwanska and Azarenka are on a collision course in the quarters, Scotty.  Winner gets probably Kim or Li Na, maybe Woz I guess -- in any event, a winnable match unless it's Clijsters at the top of her game.

I figure Vika is a pretty heavy favorite over Aggie, but if she did manage to get through that match, she would have a great chance to make the final.

But then we have Serena or Kvitova or Sharapova waiting -- and any of them will overpower her, and will have to lose the match, because Aggie certainly doesn't have the weapons to win it.

Re: YODA CUP Winner & Finalist Picks

Never said it would be easy, haha!

I'm hoping for the perfect storm:

Kim Clijsters upset by Hantuchova.
Woz takes out Li
The all important Aggie take down of Azarenka.
Aggie, on a emotional high, downs Woz who begins to complain of sore wrist after a tough battle with Li.
Kvitova and Serena tire each other out to submission.
Aggie wins against tired finalist.

Not all that farfetched don't you think? How's that for optimism?

Re: YODA CUP Winner & Finalist Picks

Well, step one in your perfect storm is already ruined.  But I still like Li to end Clijsters run here.

Re: YODA CUP Winner & Finalist Picks

Jie winning the tournament? Never. (Though of course now that it's been said it will surely happen...)
I like Sharapova to win it. She's playing like a warrior. I picked Kvitova, but her performance has been rather lackluster compared to the feisty Russian.

YAY!  Thank you, Adrian!! big_smile

Re: YODA CUP Winner & Finalist Picks

Anytime, buddy tongue

Re: YODA CUP Winner & Finalist Picks

Clijsters looks like the tourney winner to me.  I picked Kvitova, too, and it could still happen, but at this moment, Kim is playing at a higher level than anyone else, except maybe Azarenka, IMO.  Sharapova has looked better than Serena and Petra so far, but I doubt she'll make the semis.

Re: YODA CUP Winner & Finalist Picks

I don't even have Clijsters on my team...I thought that injury would take her out early sad

Re: YODA CUP Winner & Finalist Picks

I don't have Clijsters either.  Instead, I made SMARTER picks: Kanepi and Kuznetsova!  *shoots self in face*

-Arvis

Re: YODA CUP Winner & Finalist Picks

I picked Kanepi too, as well as Pennetta and Peer. Don't feel bad tongue
