Re: THE VADER TROPHY! (Vader League 2012)

Be careful when making picks in the SAP and Brazil Open, as it appears Gilles Simon has a doppelganger and will be playing both tournaments simultaneously.

Re: THE VADER TROPHY! (Vader League 2012)

LOL....Nice one Aiur lol......gives new meaning to "Simon says do this" huh! wink
I sent them feedback about it the other day....I'm sure they will change it asap though....Arvis' buddy Gilles Muller is playing in San Jose of course.

Re: THE VADER TROPHY! (Vader League 2012)

LOL, yeah, I saw that! big_smile
Figured ONE of them was actually Muller.

So, I actually went completely insane in some of my Vader picks this week.  In Brasil, I actually refused to pick anybody from an entire quarter of the draw, and in SAP I picked guys like Matthew Ebden and The American Ryans!  I was in a weird mood yesterday and very tired when I made those picks.

EDIT: Looks like more of the same with me and Ivan Ljubicic.  I really need to stop picking him.

Re: THE VADER TROPHY! (Vader League 2012)

Maybe a note to self then Arvis.......don't make any picks when your tired and in a weird mood!! wink lol

I was Chivalrous and took Ljuby in the CWM but not in Vader thankfully.....I must say though that I found making my picks for Rotterdam this week the hardest tourney of the year so far to lock my picks down in Vader and stick with them.
At one point I had none of the big three of Fed, Del Po & Berdych on my team... but I decided that the winning prizemoney at the ABN AMRO was too good to ignore so I slotted the Fed Express in there hoping that he will add to his huge haul of career titles.
I was going to pick Tomas the Czech too but was worried he might get bounced before the final by either Bags or Del Po....didn't wanna take the risk so I left him for another day....as for Juan Martin well he doesn't have the best indoor record and he has Llodra and possibly Petzschner to contend with early so thought I better steer clear of him too.
Just to show how awkward I found this tourney I considered taking any of the following 13 players at some point....
Federer...Nieminen...Dolgo...Lopez...Haase...Stakhovsky...Gasquet...Troicki...Ljubicic...Del Potro...Kohlschreiber...Baghdatis and Berdych hmm....bloody minefield....tricky tricky!!
I ended up settling for Federer...Nieminen...Gasquet...Troicki & Kohlschreiber!!

Anyone else find it tricky also??

Re: THE VADER TROPHY! (Vader League 2012)

Did I find it tricky?

.......

These are the players I have picked amongst all three tournaments who have actually played a match:
Montanes
Dolgopolov
Gasquet
Ljubicic

Gasquet is the only one of those 4 who won.  FANTASY TENNIS IS HARD! T_T

Re: THE VADER TROPHY! (Vader League 2012)

That sounds like the best idea I have heard this year Thomas!!
I'm assuming that you have already supplied feedback to the admin team at FTT?
It would definitely make everything a lot smoother and easier for sure.....as you say no need to worry about converting currency and sussing out which tournament has more prizemoney than another and so on.
FTT should change it next year I reckon...start up a petition Thomas! wink

Re: THE VADER TROPHY! (Vader League 2012)

Everybody who took Monfils on their Vader team this week will be disappointed....he has withdrawn from San Jose and next week's Memphis tourney too. hmm

Re: THE VADER TROPHY! (Vader League 2012)

And that's why we never put Monfils on our fantasy teams, children.  The End. smile

Well, looks like some of my guys are starting to win, but I'm still in pretty dire straits in all three of these tournaments.  IDK how I keep getting so many first round losses.

-Arvis

Re: THE VADER TROPHY! (Vader League 2012)

Of course, I went against my resolution, and picked that untrustworthy Monfils. sad

I have a question that I've been meaning to ask your thoughts on for a while, though I might have asked last year.  On FTT, what would you think about having the player's winning points instead of their prize money?  The points are a fixed number, so there wouldn't be any problems with the offerings varied from tournament to tournament, nor the currency converting issues either.

The max points one could receive in the smaller tournaments:

ATP 250: 580 (All four semifinalists)

ATP 500: 1,250 (Winner, finalist, losing semifinalists, and a quarterfinalist)

And so on....

It seems much simpler.

A points system would be much easier to follow. I never saw the reasoning behind using the actual prize money.

Re: THE VADER TROPHY! (Vader League 2012)

Well I said recently that it wouldn't be too long before Aiur picks up his first tourney win.....he has an unassailable lead in San Jose so the whole Vader Gang have now enjoyed tournament success this season....nice win Aiur. smile
He could sneak another one too if Volandri can knock over the hometown boy Bellucci in the semis otherwise BHP, myself and Dragan will share the tourney win in Sao Paulo....BHP has already secured the Rotterdam tourney win so it could end up being two out of three for Milo this week. smile

Well Volandri obliged so Aiur wins another tourney outright this week...that's two from three for you now mate, nice picking!! smile
You have shot up from 8th spot into 3rd on the number of tournament wins now Aiur in the space of one week!!

Re: THE VADER TROPHY! (Vader League 2012)

I was almost going to pick Fed in Rotterdam to make sure I had a chance at getting a win, but I stuck to my strategy. Volandri came up with the goods and a bunch of you guys got unlucky with Monfils in San Jose and I capitalized.

***I hope in your proposed format Thomas, you would get Monfils (as an example) 1st round points instead of zero dollars.

Indeed you did Aiur....I didn't see the Volandri run coming I must admit but props to you for picking him mate.....fortunately I didn't suffer from the Monfils injury curse this week like a lot of the guys did hmm

@BHP...That is a tricky one about the proposed points thing especially if he gets replaced in the draw by another player....either the replacement player earns the points for the late withdrawal or they have to stick with the current system I guess....I didn't take Raonic this week bcoz I thought he might have pulled out too after his injury in the Davis Cup, BUGGER......swings and roundabouts sometimes I guess but it would suck if someone on your team pulled out really late in a big money tournament!!

Re: THE VADER TROPHY! (Vader League 2012)

I also stayed away from Milos because of his knee injury, Tono.  Now, do I choose him next week or will San Jose take too much out of him?

266

Re: THE VADER TROPHY! (Vader League 2012)

Yeah exactly Milo....we may have already missed the bus with the Raonic pick huh....how much will this tourney take a toll on his knee I wonder??.....let's hope the press don't say he is heading to hospital or anything bcoz then we won't know what to do. wink lol

As I expected I see you have wrested the "head honcho" chair back off me in the Vader Trophy hmm....I enjoyed my one week in the hot seat though smile....but quoting your famous Arnie line...."I'll be Back"! wink

Re: THE VADER TROPHY! (Vader League 2012)

BRAVO VIKA!!!YOU ARE THE BEST!!!

You just keep winning, and we will enjoy!

Re: THE VADER TROPHY! (Vader League 2012)

Vika is on a major run of great play. She is not only handling but even flourishing as the new #1.

Can Tomic be counted on to play well after all his distractions?

I wonder if Vika will go undefeated until the French Open. wink

@BHP: I still don't trust him, didn't pick him for Vader this week.  Which means that he'll probably do AMAZING.

Re: THE VADER TROPHY! (Vader League 2012)

Intrepid Tennis Reporter "DARTH NEWS" summarises Week 6 of The Vader Trophy for "2012"!! smile

BACKHANDPASS REBOUNDS TO MOVE BACK INTO TOP SPOT IN THE VADER TROPHY!

After relinquishing his lead last week for the first time this season Backhandpass has rebounded quickly to regain the top spot in the Vader league for 2012.

The Wisconsin resident surrendered his lead in the competition for only one week to defending Vader Trophy Champion Tono but after a strong performance and a big win in the 500 series tournament in Rotterdam, Backhandpass has now regained the top position once again.
Backhandpass used the big trio of picks in Federer, Del Potro and Berdych to enable him to win the ABN AMRO tournament in Rotterdam and secure excellent prizemoney, his strategy of going hard early is currently paying dividends, his biggest challenge in the coming months might be how he handles this strategy and his picks to try and maintain his position at the top of the standings.

Aiur enjoyed his best week of the season by winning both tournaments outright in San Jose and Sao Paulo respectively, he also finished mid table in Rotterdam to complete a good haul of prizemoney, eventual winner Milos Raonic and young american Ryan Harrison were his key picks in San Jose while the 69th ranked Italian Filippo Volandri was the key pick which reaped good reward for him in Sao Paulo, Volandri finished runner up to help the 23 year old secure a fine tournament victory.

The Big Mover of the week was The Lost Scot who went from seventh place at the start of the week to finish in fourth spot by the end of it, he finished second in Rotterdam behind Backhandpass, picking Federer and Berdych on his team which earned him good prizemoney and enabled him to charge up the leaderboard.

BACKHANDPASS rebounded well after losing his top spot last week by winning the tournament in Rotterdam and securing excellent prizemoney to regain 1ST spot and the overall lead in the competition, although the 48 year old finished last in San Jose he was rewarded with a second equal finish in Sao Paulo and he now holds a $105,168 lead over Tono in second place.

TONO enjoyed a consistent week and celebrated his birthday during it by finishing mid table in San Jose, third in Rotterdam and second equal in Sao Paulo, his Federer pick in Rotterdam was not enough however to see the 45 year old kiwi maintain the top position and he moves down one place into 2ND spot, however he currently holds a healthy $570,520 lead over Dragan in third place.

DRAGAN had a mixed week finishing second equal in San Jose, bottom of the table in Rotterdam and second equal in Sao Paulo, the Serbian native still maintains his grip on 3RD spot however and he now leads The Lost Scot in fourth place by $166,993.

THE LOST SCOT was the "BIG MOVER" of the week due to his Federer and Berdych picks in Rotterdam, he finished second equal in San Jose and bottom of the table in Sao Paulo but his big haul of prizemoney in Rotterdam saw the 20 year old Texan charge up into 4TH spot all the way from his previous position of seventh, he currently holds a slender $45,707 lead over Aiur in fifth place.

AIUR enjoyed tremendous success this week winning both tournaments outright in San Jose and Sao Paulo respectively, although he finished mid table in Rotterdam he also secured good prizemoney with his Del Potro and Berdych picks, this was enough to enable the man from Philidelphia to remain in 5TH place overall although he does hold a slim $47,282 lead over Arvis in sixth place.

ARVIS had another disappointing week finishing near the bottom in all three tournaments, his Del Potro and Berdych picks did see him earn good prizemoney in Rotterdam though, the 28 year old from Florida does move down two places though into 6TH spot with an overall lead of $72,163 over Wolmas in seventh place.

WOLMAS ended up having a consistent run of mid table finishes this week and was unable to make any headway against the frontrunners, the New Jersey resident slips down one place into 7TH spot but he does hold a very healthy margin of $880,577 over CrossCourt in eighth place.

CROSSCOURT missed the deadline for making his picks in all three tournaments again this week and is now firmly entrenched in 8TH spot and the dreaded "WOODEN SPOON" position, hopefully the young Australian from Melbourne will have time to regroup very soon and make his presence felt in some of the bigger tournaments coming up in the next few months.

The next week will once again see another three tournaments being played with two 250 series events in Buenos Aires and Marseille respectively, the third event is a 500 series tournament being played in Memphis, Tennesse which carries greater prizemoney, there are plenty of quality players entered at all three tournaments so it will be another interesting week of competition in the Vader League for 2012! smile

Re: THE VADER TROPHY! (Vader League 2012)

I think I am the lowest ranked player who has been playing since week 1 without missing any picks.

...

I am sticking to my "long-term strategy" excuse.

Why do I bother with Bellucci?

Ditto.  I'm going to start calling him "Bum-lucci."  Or "Tomaz Bel-loser!"  One of the two.

-Arvis

Looks like he is out of Buenos Aires. Hope no one had him.

Re: THE VADER TROPHY! (Vader League 2012)

Nope I didn't take anyone in that quarter actually. wink
Pretty low prizemoney on offer in Buenos Aires so I went with a few different picks and saved my bullets on both Ferrer and Almagro this week....hopefully it will pay off in the long run! smile

EDIT: Although I see that one of my "bullets" was actually a blank in the form of Juan Ignacio Chela sad.....I originally had both Nalbandian and Monaco picked in Buenos Aires but left Nalby out and put Chela in....DOH! hmm
One up and one down for me....next batter up is Juan Monaco, hopefully he is my "pinch" hitter!! wink lol

I see John Isner is now ranked No.13....will he break into the top 10 this year???

Re: THE VADER TROPHY! (Vader League 2012)

He can easely break into top 10,maybe even after Memphis. But the real question is can he stay there for some time.Untile the season end?
I would love to see that, but in the same time I'm not sure.

Re: THE VADER TROPHY! (Vader League 2012)

Yeah I agree Dragan he should break into the top 10 this year but as you say the real question is....can he stay there??
He will need to string together some consistent performances in the Masters and Slam events if he wants too I think.....but I'm with you I would love to see that, who knows he could even become the new No.1 american on the tour this year! smile
