Topic: Who's will will win 2012 open
Who's going to win. Will Nole stay on top? Will rafa? Will Roger win one again finally? Or will someone else like mardy fish, Jo-willy, Murray (not) Fererr or a dark horse? Who do you think?

Hard to say LNORTE.....it will probably still be the big three who will be favoured once again but it would be nice to see a new GS winner in 2012...would love to see Tsonga or Ferrer win one, Jo Wilfred has the best chance of those two IMO though bcoz he has the bigger game.
If Del Potro can reproduce some of his Davis Cup form then he is more than capable of grabbing a 2nd GS title in 2012...as long as his wrist holds up that is!
Will Nole stay on top....hmmm good question, probably but he has an awful lot of points to defend in 2012 and everybody will be gunning for him, if he wins the AO again then he will be looking pretty good I think! ![]()
Rafa is going to be a very interesting guy to watch in 2012, he seem's keen to really have a decent crack at getting the Top spot back off Nole so we will all watch with interest I'm sure, I'm predicting that he will lose at Roland Garros next year and that could see his year take a nosedive after that, then again he might just win in Aussie and then back it up with another RG title who knows! ![]()
Will Roger win another Slam...I hope so but he will need some luck with the draw from the quarters onwards I think to add to his impressive haul of 16 Grand Slam Titles.
Mardy Fish...ahhh NO
Jo Willy...definitely a chance but could struggle to win two or three BIG matches in a row thats all.
Andy Murray, well its about bloody time he won a Slam huh
I'm thinking he will miss the boat yet again but for his sake I hope I'm wrong! ![]()
David Ferrer....unfortunately NO but a lot of people would be very happy if he were to pull it off...including me ![]()
Now for the Dark Horse....hmmmmm thats a toughie, I don't consider any of the players named above as Dark horses, in fact I expect all four GS winners will come from the group above....so if I was going for a Dark Horse it would have to be John Isner!!.....Tomas Berdych has some credentials too but maybe he is more a lighter shade of horse than "Dark"

Honestly, I'm looking at someone like Raonic or Fish as dark horse. I just don't believe Ferrer has the firepower and Tsonga is too inconsistent (still). Fish can and has beaten all of the top guys. Raonic, if he is clicking, is like an even better version of John Isner.
Idk, but if I had to guess, I'd say we'll see one of the Big 4 take it, as usual.

Hmmm interesting thoughts there Arvis....Raonic and Fish could certainly have deep runs but I don't think either would be capable of lifting the Trophy unless most of the big guns all go out early in a massive surprise (highly unlikely)
Ferrer has the willpower, but you are right, maybe not quite the "firepower" required to win a GS but he could still go deep though, Tsonga is a definite chance to cause an upset, the question is whether or not he can beat two or three of the top 4 guys in succession to take the title, if he got a favourable draw he could be dangerous though! Keep an eye on Del Po too ![]()
And lastly my friend I agree with your guess regarding who will win, but it will be one of the Big 3 or Andy Murray
...Murray is in the Big 4 at Masters events but he is yet to win a GS title so at the Slams I still call it a Big 3!!
IMO it will remain the Big 3 at the Grand Slams until Mr Andrew Murray finally gets that monkey off his back, maybe Lendl will be the key to him achieving it this year...who knows!! ![]()
I see Ferrer making a deep run here.
I see Del Potro having his biggest grand slam success since his USO triumph.
I see Bernard Tomic coming out and cementing his spot as the most promising up and coming player. Raonic will
have an early exit.
If given the opportunity, Andy Murray will defeat Nadal in a semis matchup. Unfortunately, I don't think Nadal makes the semifinals this year.
Want to See: Novak vs Roger final.
I think Isner is going to be the one to watch out for this year. Just look at where he ranked at the end of the year Power Rankings. His service game is hard to break, he beat Tsonga in Paris last year, and there are just so many things going his way. I wouldn't be too surprised to see Isner in the Finals this year.
Oh.... And Djokavic's year is over, you all saw how he just disappeared at the end last year. He'll be in the top 10, but I don't see him winning anymore slams for a while.
Your Djokovic comment is funny! ![]()
DOMINATION IS ONLY JUST BEGUN!!!

Yeah I have to agree with you Dragan
sorry Alx but I think you are wide of the mark about your Djokovic comment....I would be very surprised if Nole doesn't win 1 or more Slams again this year!
Alx I might have agreed with you yesterday about your Isner comment BUT if he can't put away Bobby Reynolds easily like most Top 10 players would (apparently it was windy) then I don't see Big John having much hope at this years Aussie Open!
My dark horse bet in a previous post in another thread was that isner would make the semis of a major this year. Wouldn't be terribly shocked to see it happen because his serve is that huge.
Unfortunately, unless Andy Murray comes out hot, I don't see anyone beating Djokovic at the Aussie. Out of the top 4 , Andy has shown me some of the most promising play against Djokovic apart from Feds masterfully FO semi. However, if the weather is extremely hot at the AO this year unlike last year, then Djokovic could be hampered a bit. I'm not quite yet ready to buy into his fitness quite yet. Any sign of breathing problems will spell him disaster. Otherwise, he's probably bagging his second straight AO.
People forget that not that long ago, Djokovic was dumped out of the Aussie Open by Andy Roddick. But it's hard to doubt Djokovic's fitness or ability after last year's magical season. If we don't see Novak make the finals, it would be a HUGE upset.
-Arvis
What worries me for Djokovic as well as Nadal is that they cannot stay healthy for a whole season. Until they accomplish this, I will question their physical fitness. I get a weird feeling about Nadal more than I do about Djokovic.
I really hope he proves what I think of his career's future wrong.
The keyword here is that it was "magical". I'm with Nadal in that I think Djokos level of play cannot be sustained whether it be for physical or mental reasons. Though It is very hard to judge a player after one phenomenal season so I shall reserve any further judgment until I am able to see more. I Could be proven way wrong.
Agreed on that anything short of a final for Novak would be a massive upset that could in fact be a season changer for him.
Hi... I'm just wondering how petkovic got injured... She would have been one of mi picks probably
I believe she had back trouble, like a muscle tear or something. Happened just a week or two before the Aussie.
-Arvis
Yep she was diagnosed with a stress fracture in her back, she will be out for 6-8 weeks at least I believe! ![]()
Shame about Petkovic. I like her game. As for the men, this Open is a really exciting one. So many questions about the pecking order. Djokovic is just oozing confidence at the moment and he loves playing in Australia - great memories for him. I can't imagine anyone taking this from him before the finals.
Federer is my next choice. He knows he can beat Nole and someone who has won 16 GS doesn't usually lose early. If he can get to the finals he should have a shot.
Nadal (my favorite) is unfortunately my biggest worry. He hasn't played well here since the magical 09 Open. He doesn't seem like himself. Unless he can pull out some great play and some big moments I don't see him getting past the semis.
Murray always does well and I love that he has Lendl in his box but I think that is going to need some time. Maybe for the French? he always does surprisingly well there.
it always seems that there are a few other players (Tsonga, Del Potro, Ferrer) that show up at the party but don't know how to dance. It would be great to see a breakthrough that stays strong and challenges the top 4 but I don't see it for this tourney.
Good comments there MIKETM732, welcome to the forum ![]()
Nadal almost pulled out of the tournament with his injured knee.....I had him making the final against Nole but I'm not so sure he will get that far now....A Nole v Fed final is looking like a distinct possibility at this stage, still lots of twists and turns to come yet though I'm sure.
