Topic: YODA CREW AWARDS "2011"

Ok guys with the 2011 season almost over and the ATP World Tour Finals just around the corner is it time to hand out our first ever Yoda Crew Awards??

We could have the following awards...

Yoda Crew Player of the Year - Best performed player across all four formats
Yoda Crew Most Improved Player - Most improved player across all four formats (Voted by the players)
Yoda Crew Players Favourite - Favourite Yoda Crew player (Voted for by the players)
Yoda Crew Performance Of The Year - Best individual performance in any of the four formats (Voted by the players)

We could have a secret ballot by email so everyone gets a chance to vote...we could have two of us (Tono & Don) receiving your votes and Don and I would have to email each other our choices so there can be no Russian Mafia skullduggery going on lol ......What do ya'll reckon????
If the Player of the Year ends up being too close to call then that will be decided by the Yoda Crew members also!
That way these awards our definitely "ours" as a group big_smile

Re: YODA CREW AWARDS "2011"

Just throwing it out there Dragan thats all...it's been a pleasure competing with one another this part season, its been great fun and very competitive...but like always with the Yoda Crew it has to be a group decision...I'm content with whatever the group decides...if they don't want it thats all good too smile

Re: YODA CREW AWARDS "2011"

I don't know, I like this idea. smile

But I think if anyone wants to do it, they should just write-in their votes here, no need to keep it secret.  None of us have ever had trouble being honest with each other and saying what we really think.  The only rule I would add, though: no voting for yourself!

I'll go first:
Yoda Crew Player Of The Year:  Tono!  Duh.
Yoda Crew Most Improved Player:  CrossCourt!  This isn't really fair, he just did so poorly at Wimbledon, then did great in all the other tournaments.  So... that's why I picked him. big_smile
Yoda Crew Players Favorite:  Dragan.  He's from Serbia, but uses English words like "unilateral" in his posts.  Freaking cool. (Honorable mentions: Tono, for all the cool stats and write-ups.  Don, for being so darn entertaining all the time.)
Yoda Crew Performance Of The Year:  Aiur getting second worldwide in the women's US Open on GSFT.  (Honorable mention: MYSELF, for my week 1 performance in the Men's Bracket for The Cannoli!  Couldn't vote for myself, but I can honorably mention myself all I want.)

Re: YODA CREW AWARDS "2011"

Good on you Arvis for starting the ball rolling smile I agree with everything you have stated above...you are right, there is no need to keep the votes secret and I also like it that you have put reasons for your decisions too...props mate smile

The only thing I will say though is that a few of the Crew may not read the post and forget to nominate, hence my idea to maybe give them an email reminder or something.

Here's my nominations:
Yoda Crew Player Of The Year: DON! I can't vote for myself so based on consistency across all the formats I would go for Don.. 2 Masters wins in R2D2, 2nd in overall points in Yoda and 3rd in Vader after being 6th in weeks 8 & 9...honourable mention, well Tono! Duh lol
Yoda Crew Most Improved Player: CROSSCOURT! Has steadily improved in all formats of fantasy tennis this year and secured his first title by winning the R2D2 Crown.
Yoda Crew Players Favourite: ARVIS! Have enjoyed his hard case posts throughout this year and I like how he wears his heart on his sleeve during tournaments, being the first to make his pick in the Yoda Crew Awards helped too...Honourable mention to all the Crew really but especially those who post regularly. smile
Yoda Crew Performance Of The Year: WOLMAS! (If he wins Vader) Otherwise it's AIUR! Wolmas missed the first two weeks of Vader but steadily climbed the rankings to still be in contention to win the Vader Trophy heading into the last week, AIUR to win it on his performance at the US Open if Wolmas doesn't win in Vader...honourable mention to Dragan for winning Wimbledon overall in GSFT but that was before he joined the Yoda Crew I guess huh, .. I'll chuck another one in for myself, Tono on his big comeback to win the Obi Wan Cannoli and my start to finish lead/win hopefully in Vader. big_smile

I have emailed everbody to remind them to make their nominations! smile

Re: YODA CREW AWARDS "2011"

Ok,if we are having the awards lets have it! smile

First of all I want to say that I had this awards ready yesterday, your kind words above didn't had influence on my decisions.

Yoda Crew Player Of The Year:Tono,I don't have to do much explanation here. But I must say that this was a half season competition. wink

Yoda Crew Most Improved Player:If you all say CrossCourt then CC it is.

Yoda Crew Players Favourite:It's the upset man of course, better known as Arvis.I like his upset picks like Muller in the US Open or Nishikori in Basel.Maybe he should try to find some balance there in the future but I like to see an upset prediction that goes through.Honourable mention goes to Tono for his great efort on the all statistics, comments ect.

Yoda Crew Performance Of The Year:It's Aiur on the US Open in the Yoda Cup.

Re: YODA CREW AWARDS "2011"

See this is the beauty of having the awards...I concur with Arvis & Dragan that Aiur desrves to win the performance of the year for his effort at the US Open...unless Wolmas gets up to snatch the Vader Trophy off me next week that is! wink

Re: YODA CREW AWARDS "2011"

You are right,if Wolmas takes the first place in Vader I will change my award for the best performance and give it to him.

LOL!  I know you weren't around for Wimby, but I also nailed Xavier Malisse as an unseeded player in my Wimby team on GSFT. wink

Honestly, picking upsets and nobodies is the one thing I like to think I'm decent at.  But if I pick a player on a hot streak, it ends his hot streak every time.  My pick is the death knell for all the Monfils-es and Ljubicic-es of the tennis world.  Countless times this year I have put a streaky player on my team on Vader, only to have him withdraw from the tournament.  In fact, it just happened to me two tournaments in a row with Andy Murray and JMDP.  *sigh*

I'll try not to let you down next year, Dragan. wink

EDIT: If Wolmas takes Vader, I'll be stunned beyond belief.  I may forget how to use a keyboard, so I probably won't change any of my picks here.  With all of Tono's wins in Vader, I don't see how he can NOT win the whole shebang.

Re: YODA CREW AWARDS "2011"

Thanks Arvis...I think I deserve to win the whole shebang in Vader BUT if I slip up in London I could be crying in my cornflakes lol
Will be interesting to see what prizemoney format they come up with for that tourney! hmm

Re: YODA CREW AWARDS "2011"

I actually don't like the "awards" either, Dragan.  Totally unnecessary IMO.

Clearly there is no "Player of the Year" since this has been going on for half a year.  But there should be none anyway IMO.  The separate titles speak for themselves.

Also, I find the "players' favourite" to be so junior high school it's comical.  Absolutely atrocious idea IMO.

On tour the players vote for Sportsman of the Year (the Edberg Award -- highest award there is).  In our group that is very obviously Thomas Wolansky.  If you need an explanation, I want to know why.  But, just in case, 1) he has helpfully and selflessly provided the group with information about injuries and withdrawals when others failed or refused to share such information, and 2) from the beginning, he did not use auto-pick, refusing to accept points for picks he did not make.  Had Wolmas been the only player who made picks for a tourney in R2D2 -- say, Shanghai, for instance -- I'm absolutely certain he would refuse to count the results.  Even I would do that.  But I don't pretend to be operating on Thomas' ethical level.  None of the rest of us even begin to think about operating on Mr. Wolansky's ethical level IMO.

On tour, the players vote for Most Improved.  That, to me, is clearly CrossCourt.  I don't say that to lord it over CC, but to recognize how very far he's come in a very short time.  CC is quite young and has in fact been learning so much so fast that he's become a legitimate threat in all venues.  If he continues to learn and improve he may very well become the guy to beat.  He's clearly on his way already.

On tour, the players vote for Newcomer of the Year.  We have a few cool newcomers.  We're fortunate in that regard.  I'm not about to pick between them myself.

I actually dislike the idea of "awards" a lot, so I almost didn't write this.  The primary reason I did was that I feel Thomas Wolansky deserves recognition.  So i sucked it up and participated in this even though I dislike it a lot.

Re: YODA CREW AWARDS "2011"

You should said all this yesterday and we would not make our awards then, becouse it does not make any sence if we all do not participate in it.
I tought that I was the only one who is against the awards so I made it.I didn't want to be the last one and to make the impression like I'm copying someone elses awards.

I said what I think about the awards in the post that I deleted after I made mine.
But mentening junior high school in that way is a bit rough.IMO.
I'm sure that Tono had some positive atitute when he thought of that.

Re: YODA CREW AWARDS "2011"

LOL...Geez, lighten up Don, this season (part season) has been very enjoyable and it's a fun way to recognise Yoda Crew members for all their different attributes....as Dragan states you could have let us know your opinion earlier and we may not have even gone ahead with them...as I said in my original post, group consensus will always dictate yay or nay on things like this!
I was trying to mirror the ATP Awards from the start you see BUT these are "OUR" awards as a group so I was only throwing idea's out there....the Sportsmanship Award is a valid one and I would have to agree with Don that Wolmas would deservedly win that one...I'm happy to include that one if everybody agree's  smile

I see Don can't even bare the thought of mentioning my name as the player of the year based on the fact it wasn't a full year...laughable really lol I think I know who would get the "Spit The Dummy" or "Sore Loser" Award!! wink lol
The newcomer of the year I didn't include bcoz what happens if it remains just the 8 of us next year and the year after etc...there will be no newcomer to give the award to hmm
Don you can call the "Players Favourite" whatever you like but I think its a fun way to recognise the individual who has made you laugh or conversed with you the most or enjoyed having some fun outside the competiton etc etc....you really need to take some chill pills I think Mr Denman....or should I start calling you Don McEnroe!! wink

I can't help but think if Don had won several of our "part" season competitons that he would not even be mentioning the fact it wasn't a full year or that this season was just some kind of practice either...it is what it is Don, it's been our inaugural season/part season for ALL of our competitions and very enjoyable too. big_smile
Of course ALL of us are looking forward to next year bcoz it's a full calendar year and the Guru, Lord and King titles will be up for grabs for the first time but we can still ALL celebrate the fact that we have started something special as a group which is fun, interactive and very competitive!! big_smile

Re: YODA CREW AWARDS "2011"

I let you know my opinion in a timely fashion.  You keep not caring one whit what my opinion is and going ahead like you're King, Tony.  Newsflash!  You're not.

I've really lost all patience with you at this point, Mr. Watson.  I take deep offense that you would call me a sore loser and worse.  Maybe I shouldn't be surprised at this nasty attack of yours, but I am actually astonished.  I thought we were friends.  I was certainly wrong about that.

You can take your insults and stick them where the sun don't shine.  If others want to put up with being talked down to that way, that's their business, but you are in no way my superior, Tony -- so quit acting like you're the drill sergeant and I'm one of your grunts, you arrogant twit.

Re: YODA CREW AWARDS "2011"

LMAO lol lol.....Boy oh boy maybe the truth hurts huh!
Question...when have I ever stated that I am King or superior to anyone else on here...do tell Don, I'm confused. hmm
I am friendly with everybody on here including you...it seems to me that you are able to dish out whatever insults you like to whomever you like but if someone has some lighthearted fun in return with you then you get all upset about it!! Whose acting like a Junior High student now then???
As I have already said earlier I have no problems whether we have "Awards" or not...like everything on here, including the birth of all our competitions, you, me or anybody else has made suggestions about stuff and we have run with it, I really don't understand what you are so upset about....the only thing I can think of is that you are too used to getting your own way...I think I am a very balanced individual and far from being arrogant but you are entitled to your opinion....just remember Don I more often than not agree with you on most things so to have a spat over this is trivial IMO.....one more thing it's not like we are playing for millions of $$$ or anything, we set up the leagues bcoz we love tennis and we enjoy Fantasy Tennis and most of us enjoy tough competition....if you are pissed you didn't win anything...GET OVER IT!!

Re: YODA CREW AWARDS "2011"

The truth is I've had it with your arrogance.  You don't have to say you think you're the King.  You act like you do.

You call that despicable post above "friendly"???  I don't.  I call it rank insults from a guy who theoretically was supposed to be a friend.  "Lighthearted fun" my butt: insulting your friends is not OK.  In spite of what you claim, I have not done that, and do not.

I have a right to my opinion, but when I expressed it and it disagreed with yours, you responded by launching an attack on me -- and now you want to blame me because I don't like being attacked for disagreeing with you.  Because I said that I thought you had a terrible idea, you responded with a personal attack.  Charming.

The fact that you think this has something to do with competition results is typical of you.  It's the only thing that you care about, so you think it's the only thing that means anything to me, too.  Guess again.  I'm angry with you because you insulted me for no reason.  Wrap that hard head around that concept if you can.  Also, try to understand this: winning these competitions is no big deal to me, though I've done more than my share of winning all my life.  Fairness is a big deal to me.  Treating friends like friends is also a big deal to me.

This is not a spat and it's not trivial.  I'm no longer even interested in an apology.  Go insult somebody else.  I'm done with you.

Re: YODA CREW AWARDS "2011"

As I have already said I'm a Lover not a fighter Don...but I find it funny that you call me arrogant and somehow I'm insulting you...hmmmm! I enjoy a bit of banter and ribbing from one another, I don't take offense too much, even your arrogant comment doesn't bother me bcoz as you say you are entitled to your opinion.
I totally agree with you that you are entitled to your opinion Don, I have never said otherwise, doesn't mean we will always agree on everything though....if you mean that I think I'm the "King" bcoz I make posts and suggestions etc for the benefit of everyone then so be it...but I do that bcoz I enjoy doing it NOT bcoz I'm trying to be someone or better than anyone else in here...I'm sure you and the guys will let me know if my suggestions suck etc lol

I think you should go and re-read some of your above posts Don before you start pointing the finger at me for insulting you!!!! wink

Footnote:
Thomas, Aiur, CrossCourt & BHP will decide whether the "Awards" go ahead...so far Don and Dragan are against & Arvis and Tono are for so its 50/50....it's up to the you guys to give us your thoughts smile

Re: YODA CREW AWARDS "2011"

All pretty harmless IMO and meant in good humour anyway, maybe not harmless to you but they were never intended to upset you at all......nothing as harmful as your "Drop Dead" comment in your email anyway that I can see!!

I'm moving on from this trivial matter now anyway...I do recall now that you have had major altercations with Aiur, The Lost Scot and a few other imbiciles in the Obi Wan Cannoli as well so I suggest you look no further than the mirror Mr Denman...and while you are standing in front of it learn to laugh at yourself a bit more!!

LOL....You are a crack up Arvis my man...I like your sense of humour mate....keep it up!! big_smile
You want an ice cream or snow cone to go with your popcorn and Mountain Dew as you sit back and enjoy the entertainment lol

Re: YODA CREW AWARDS "2011"

Ooh, ice cream would be good.  But I just had an Espresso Escape dark chocolate sundae from Ghirardelli the other day, so that pretty much wrecked my sweet tooth for a while.

Interesting factoid: I got another cavity just typing out that last post.

EDIT: By the way, Tono, congrats on becoming a Grand Slam Champion today!

Huh? Oh Yeah now I see it...thanks Arvis smile
I better not gloat or say anything about it though...don't wanna be seen as pretending to be head honcho or anything round here now do I lol

I see you are now a top 50 player Arvis...congrats...we are all sneaking up in description which will look good in the main standings of GSFT for the Yoda Crew huh smile

Re: YODA CREW AWARDS "2011"

My slumber has been disturbed by an E-Mail from Tono, and it led me to post in this very thread.

I am in favor of handing out awards, but the problem is we didn't have a full year of results. Sure, we had the 4 GSFT tournaments, but the 'Slams are but a fragment of the tennis season. We joined the FTT and ATP Challenge Circuit late, so it's really hard to say who deserves an award.

Anyway, I have a proposal on how to combine GSFT, FTT and ATP Challenge Circuit into a points system for next season that would provide an incentive for everyone to utilize all three sites.

GSFT Men's tournament winner - 25 points
GSFT Women's tournament winner - 25 points
GSFT Best unseeded male player - 2 points
GSFT Best unseeded female player - 2 points
FTT 250 series winner - 1 point
FTT 500 series winner - 2 points
FTT Masters winner - 7 points
FTT Grand Slam winner - 10 points
ATP Challenge Circuit winner - 10 points
ATP Challenge Circuit runner-up - 5 points
ATP Challenge Circuit 3rd place - 3 points

Love it, hate it, whatever, leave some feedback.

Re: YODA CREW AWARDS "2011"

I like the way that you determined this points Aiur, but I really don't see the reason for something like that.
For me the individual competitions are enough, and quite a motivation too.
