Re: Can any underdogs take the Open

I just finished my picks here.  I'm not sure if I'll be doing brackets for the Women's side, it would be pointless,  just picking names.

Re: Can any underdogs take the Open

It shouldn't take you too long Wolmas...the womens matches usually don't need as much time spent on them....give it a crack!!
Don do you know or are you aware that there is another Pat Rafter fan in the main standings of GSFT....the team name is...ForeverRafter...I like It! smile

Re: Can any underdogs take the Open

I like it, too, Tono!  Very clever name.  Obviously a person of great discernment and intelligence!!!

Actually, I spent quite a bit more time on my women's bracket in the Cannoli than the men's.  We've been following the men closely because of Vader, so that wasn't so hard.  The women's bracket was more difficult because I was not anything like as familiar with everyone's present form.  So it took me a lot of reading to make my picks on the women's side.

Re: Can any underdogs take the Open

I decided to just pick on first impressions and then go back through each round to see if I had to look for any head to head stats etc...I actually took longer than I thought I would too but once picked I didn't have the same uncertainty with most of the womens picks as I did some of the mens....that was bcoz I spent HEAPS of time sorting through my women's team for Yoda so most of my Cannoli picks on the women's side were already sorted smile

My women's teams have been my downfall in the past in GSFT so my fingers are crossed that my ladies will ALL win their 1st round matches and get me off to a good start in search of back to back Yoda Cup victories! big_smile

Re: Can any underdogs take the Open

Did anyone else pick Alex Bogomolov to beat Soderling in the 2nd round?  Or am I the only one dumb enough to chance that?

Re: Can any underdogs take the Open

I didn't make that pick, Arvis, but it's quite a reasonable one to me.  I have Soderling losing to Delpo.

Re: Can any underdogs take the Open

I saw someone picked Bogo as an unseeded pick.  I think Charles did, actually!  I didn't go THAT far.

Re: Can any underdogs take the Open

Vader Picks:

BHP: Djokovic, Nadal, Murray, Roddick, Fish, Del Potro, Berdych.

Aiur: Big Four, and; Berdych, Fish, Wawrinka.

CC: Big Four and; Fish, Ferrer, and Tipsarevic.

Arvis: Big Four and; Fish, Roddick, Berdych.

Don: Big Four, and; Fish, Del Potro, and Ferrer.

Wolmas: Big Four, and; Fish, Roddick, Simon.

Guga: Big Four, and; Fish, Tsonga, Del Potro.

Tono: Big Four, and; Fish, Wawrinka, Del Potro.

So It's basically our two different picks to make a differeence, there might be a scenario in there, but I can't see anyone gaining ground unless Wawrinka and Berdych go real far .  Actually, I'm the only one with Simon, so if he were to advance to the third round, defeat Del Potro, and go to the QF, then I might be in a good position.  Most everyone has Fish, Berdych, Del Potro, or Ferrer.  BHP is the only one not to pick all top four players, but he picked players most of us have, some two.

All I'm looking at is Tony's head on the proverbial stick - My Roddick vs your Wawrinka, and Simon MAY play Del Potro.  On the main league, I took Del Potro instead of Simon, the other six are the same.  I'm not completely confident in either player, especially Del Potro's performance in the last three tournaments.  We'll see.

No, I did that as well.

Re: Can any underdogs take the Open

That may not be too bad a pick actually..Soderling comes in with hardly any tennis and if the wind blows then an upset is definitely on the cards IMO....good luck with the Bogo pick guys! smile

Re: Can any underdogs take the Open

Actually, everybody has Fish, Wolmas, as well as the Big Four.  It's simpler if you leave them out.

Aiur:       Berdych, Wawrinka
Arvis:      Berdych, Roddick
BHP:       Berdych, Roddick, Delpo and no Federer
CC:         Ferrer, Tipsy
Don:       Ferrer, Delpo
Guga:     Tsonga, Delpo
Tono:      Wawrinka, Delpo
Wolmas: Simon, Roddick

Re: Can any underdogs take the Open

Everybody but BHP has the top four, Don.  You are right about it being better to just leave out the big four, though.  It's easier to read and analyze that way.

[Added in edit[:   You're also right about everyone having Fish.  I typed my post out, but didn't look it over.

Re: Can any underdogs take the Open

Ha, glad I"m not the only one to pick Bogo over Soderling in Obi Wan. smile

I can't believe how similar everyone's teams are for this tournament!  First, everyone in Yoda takes Sharapova, and now everyone in Vader took Fish!  Hiloarious.  But Fish has been the closest thing to guaranteed money this summer, so it makes sense to pick him, especially looking at his draw.

Re: Can any underdogs take the Open

Maybe we are all just getting better at this Arvis and also getting to know each other's picking style etc wink
