Topic: Davis Cup 2011!

It's quarterfinals time in the Davis Cup! smile
It's looking like a Serbia v Argentina semifinal on one side of the draw and the other well..... wide open I think!
USA or Spain?? Team USA have picked a fast indoor court to negate the Spanish Armada and Spain don't have Rafa at their disposal either, chuck in the Bryan brothers and the fact it's beng played in Andy Roddick's home town I think that will be enough to get the USA lads home.
Germany v France...whew, this could easily be a semifinal, if it was being played in France then the Frenchmen would win easily I think but it's in Stuttgart and the Germans will rise to the ocassion for this one I think.
Too close to call but maybe France to sneak it 3-2 winning the deciding rubber.
Florian Mayer currently leads Richard Gasquet by two sets to love so thats a promising start for Germany in the 1st rubber!

We are confidently leading the Argentinians in doubles.So tomorrow will be the final showdown.Tipsarevic-Nalbandian and Djokovic-Del Potro.

The way Nalbandian beat up on Troicki you would have to favour the Argentinian in this one BUT it is at home in Belgrade so another amazing comeback could be on the cards for Serbia...especially IF Novak plays!!

When you play Nalbandian, you have to be ready to stay out there all day.  Janko is.  Janko will out-think David.  David is a better athlete by a lot, with a great deal more big match experience.  Really interesting match up.

I'm not sure but I think that Janko plays first tomorrow.If he winns Nole will definetly play couse he is proved patriot.But I think that Janko is a bit exhausted after this mini US tour.So everything is open.

A Serbia V Spain final would be great...another chance for a Novak v Rafa match-up...would that be played in Serbia or Spain??
If Argentina beat Serbia I can't see them beating Spain in the final though...what about the World Group play-offs.....Tomic topples Stan Wawrinka in the first rubber and the Golden duo of Stan & Fed get beaten in the doubles too...must be Rafter's influence shining through huh Don wink

If we play vs Spain in the finals that match would be played in Belgrade becouse we played(and lost sad ) on thair court few years ago.What's the score in that play off match 2:1 for Aussis?

Yep 2-1 to the Ockers..Tomic plays Fed & Hewitt plays Wawrinka in the reverse singles...Fed has already stated that he is feeling tired and Stan is sore so I'm guessing Fed will probably beat Bernie Tomic and then Hewitt will do a few "C'mons" and be the hero and beat Stan!
Tomic is only 18 and he is already beating guys in the top 20....don't like the guys attitude much but he can obviously play huh!

I'm totally with Aussies in this one.They have rich tennis history,and I will love to see tham back in the world group.C'MON HEWIT!I don't like Tomic ider,but he can surely play!

Wow...Fed levels the tie at 2-2 in four sets against Tomic and then Hewitt takes a two sets to one lead against Stan before Wawrinka levels at 2 sets all...then Stan gets the break in the final set, he is leading 5-3 and the match is suspended due to darkness...talk about Davis Cup drama at its very best big_smile

Tragic end of our Davis cup season.Noles back or beter to say his rib muscle just didn't hold on.All respect to Argentinians though.I'm with them in the final.C'mon Delpo!

Yep too much tennis lately for Novak, he needs to rest and heal and look forward to the next Masters event I think!

The Davis Cup always brings out drama and some classic matches....Youzhny saves match points against Bellucci in a 5 hour marathon finally winning it 14-12 in the final set..he levels the tie at 2-2 and then Tursunov wins in four sets to keep Russia's place in the World Group....amazing stuff!

It's like.... Nadal steps on clay.... and he doesn't have to think anymore.  Or try.  Winning is sort of like what jogging must feel like to you or me.  Light extertion, no difficulty, no planning except turn here turn there get home.

He probably was thinking about what he was going to have for dinner while he was out there.  Or maybe that movie he saw the other night.  Or about Shakira.  It was clear he didn't need to think too hard about his tennis.

Ferrer is the kind of guy who can sit and weather the storm just long enough to get a slight dip in play from his opponent. Unfortunate how this Davis Cup is just about over with now.

It's fun to watch the players' performance change so drastically on different tennis court surfaces. Nadal is amazing on clay courts, he seems unbeatable!

After 5 hours and 7 minutes stepanek not only refused to shake hands with Tipsarevic but according to Janko's wards showed him a finger!!!

Apparently Radek said something in the heat of the moment and called Tipsy a name but definitely didn't give him the finger from what I can see.

Man there have been some classic Davis Cup matches this weekend....Argentina scrape through their doubles match 8-6 in the 5th set....Nalby & Schwank pipped Cilic & Karlovic to give the Argies a 2-1 lead.

Tipsy edged Radek 9-7 in a five hour marathon to keep the Serb hopes alive on day one and Cilic surprised Nalbandian in another five hour battle 6-3 in the 5th to kick things off for Croatia.....just proves that when all these guys are focused and have the desire that the matches can indeed go any which way huh.

Hey Tony.

It's obvious that it is not a hand shake.You can see from the first angle of the video that stepanek didn't gave a hand for the shake but when touched Janko's hand put a midlefingeg in to it!You watch closely stepanek's hand and you will clearly see the finger when he is pooling of the hand from Janko.
The video was on our TV yesterday and it's obvious that he(scum) put a midlefinger in to Janko's hand.
I would like to see your reaction if someone did that to you,if that was a hand shake like you said.

Ohhh now I see where you are coming from Dragan....this is not a common knowledge thing to me but I now see what you were referring to.
I thought in your original post that Stepanek refused to shake hands at all with Janko and then gave him the "finger" as in the up yours one finger salute.....we crossed wires a little on this one mate that's all, I was looking for something completely different. hmm
