Re: Share Your Men's & Women's Fantasy Tennis Champions here!

Haase up a break, 4-1 on Verdasco in the first set.

Re: Share Your Men's & Women's Fantasy Tennis Champions here!

Haase takes the 1st set, 6-3.  Is this the one set he's allowed to win? wink

I'd be surprised if Fernando wins more than one set now.

Re: Share Your Men's & Women's Fantasy Tennis Champions here!

I still say Isner was the best and most obvious choice for an unseeded player.  Mahut was not going to beat him.  Then Almagro, who is lost on grass, and then an out-of-form Youzhny.  Talk about a soft draw!  He may not make it through, of course, but he clearly appeared to have the best chance of any unseeded player in the men's draw to make R16 and get the +32 points.

By the way, my Gasquet pick is looking good.  Wawrinka went down to Bolelli in straight sets, so Richard gets Simone next!  Sweet.

Re: Share Your Men's & Women's Fantasy Tennis Champions here!

Apparently Verdasco is stinking up the place.  How very far he has fallen in the last year or so.  Sad.

Of course, I doubt that anybody took him on their team.  It would be nearly as strange a choice as Chela!   ;-D

...and Fish was always the favorite in that quarter IMO.  I say that only because Berdych came in so very out of form.

T_T

Verdasco actually broke Haase's serve (finally) when Robin was serving for the 2nd set.  Verdy still down a break, though.  I wonder if he's ramping up his game at the last second like he did against Stepanek.

Re: Share Your Men's & Women's Fantasy Tennis Champions here!

Haase wins the 2nd, 6-4.  That's TWO sets, Don. wink

Verdasco will probably come back and beat him now, though.

Yeah, I'll let it go now. smile

Re: Share Your Men's & Women's Fantasy Tennis Champions here!

When I saw Wawrinka go down, I felt a whole lot better about my men's picks.

Re: Share Your Men's & Women's Fantasy Tennis Champions here!

I'm currently 1st in both the mens and womens picks. Won't last long though. Never does.

Re: Share Your Men's & Women's Fantasy Tennis Champions here!

Where's your positivity Torres!! You are allowed to gloat when your on top, don't be shy now... let us hear ya! smile
I'm with Don once again regarding the Isner pick for the unseeded player, with his draw and BIG serve he was the obvious choice for me, the only other one I briefly contemplated taking was Ivo Karlovic, (2nd Round Loss) didn't take him though bcoz he had Tipsarevic in the 1st Round.
Del Po is a set down and has to serve well to take care of business with Rochus, I'm hoping he can get through that match bcoz I feel he will easily out-hit Simon in Round 3, I'm putting faith in his serve bcoz I think that Del Po's groundies are not well suited to grass, he takes too bigger swing for my liking especially on the forehand, he needs time to wind up and crunch that big forehand, my finger's are crossed for the tall Argentine smile GO DEL PO!!!

Re: Share Your Men's & Women's Fantasy Tennis Champions here!

I was thinking of Hewitt as a choice but with Soderling in 2nd round...

Many people underestimate Soderling on grass, thinking that he's only good on hard and clay courts. Soderling didn't make it to a career high #4 in the world for playing badly on grass. On anyday, Robin is a force to be reckoned with, which is why is definitely one of my fav players - he's just so underestimated.

Re: Share Your Men's & Women's Fantasy Tennis Champions here!

Soderling's greatest weakness is playing in the wind.  Because his ball toss is so high (way TOO high, actually) and his groundstrokes are so very long, the wind gives him fits.  He's a somewhat better wind player now than he used to be, but it's still a big problem for him if the wind is swirling or variable or hard.

Even before his big win over Nadal at RG in'09, which propelled him into the top 10 for the first time, he was a force to be reckoned with indoors.  In fact, his lifetime win percentages are: indoors .740, outdoors .596.  Gigantic difference.

Re: Share Your Men's & Women's Fantasy Tennis Champions here!

Uh-oh.  Malisse and Mayer all tied up at 1 set apiece.

-Arvis

Re: Share Your Men's & Women's Fantasy Tennis Champions here!

Xavier Malisse crushes Florian Mayer 1-6, 6-3, 6-2, 6-2.

I was thinking between picking Malisse or Lu as my unseeded player but it looks like they're BOTH going through to the 3rd round.
What do you guys think of their next matches: Lu v. Llodra or Malisse v. Melzer?  Does anyone besides me care? big_smile

-Arvis

Re: Share Your Men's & Women's Fantasy Tennis Champions here!

Mayer started beautifully but that was about it.  X-man turned out to be a nice pick.  He has a great chance to win the next round, too.  Lu's dangerous, but Llodra should come through that one, I think.

In fact, Llodra turned out to be an excellent pick in my opinion, and quite a few people took him.  I didn't ONLY because he had Ward in the first round and that was too dangerous a match IMO.

Re: Share Your Men's & Women's Fantasy Tennis Champions here!

Agreed, I thought Ward might be able to take him.  It turned out to be scary for Llodra, but he handled the tiebreaks well.  Llodra has a good chance to make it to the Rd of 16, a good result for a Sub-16 pick.  But then he'll run into Djokovic, so..... yeah.

Re: Share Your Men's & Women's Fantasy Tennis Champions here!

I wish these rain delays would go away so that all of my players could get through the second round. At least I hope they get through it.

Re: Share Your Men's & Women's Fantasy Tennis Champions here!

Well looks like I'm going to lose Radwanska. I had high hopes about that one. Isner isn't looking
impressive either. However, let's go Lisicki. She's the reason I didn't take Li Na.

Re: Share Your Men's & Women's Fantasy Tennis Champions here!

I lost Radwanska too but Lisicki beat Li Na which was great!  I went against Li Na at the French and paid dearly but I really felt Lisicki was playing well and due to have a big win.

Florian was a bust and Isner looks to be going down too!

Re: Share Your Men's & Women's Fantasy Tennis Champions here!

I'm very surprised at and disappointed in Li's performance. Having the forehand go away at a crucial time in the match is the OLD Li, not the one we've seen for the past year.  Before the tourney started, this was obviously going to be a key match.  Had Li stepped it up enough to come through this match, as I expected she would, she would have been the favorite over Serena in the quarters IMO.  I had her going to the finals, so this has damaged my women's team very badly.

Those who took Lisicki should be ecstatic. She gets a qualifier next.  Then, in all likelihood, Ivanovic, and then an out of form Serena. She has a real shot to make the semis.

I should have realized before I took him that Isner wasn't going to be able to break Almagro's serve.  What was I thinking???  Mayer started off great and then went away.

So I lost 3 players today after making it through the first 3 days unscathed.   I had high hopes for both my men's and women's teams, but it's looking bleak now.

Re: Share Your Men's & Women's Fantasy Tennis Champions here!

Sorry, Don. I had Li as a finalist, as well. sad

I lost three of my women's players today (Li, Zheng, McHale).  Not really a good day for me on that side, but I DO have Andrea Petkovic left, who is diligently winning all the matches she SHOULD be winning since the start of the French til now.  Let's hope she can keep that up.  Also, Don, I believe you have Kvitova as your other finalist, yes?  She has a really good chance to to make it (better than Petko-baby, probably), so I think you're still in a strong position.

Re: Share Your Men's & Women's Fantasy Tennis Champions here!

Very excited to have picked Lisicki. It was heartbreaking to see her go down the way she did at the French, but I think she knew that this was a very big match for her and went out and gave it a 100%. Li Na did not capitalize on chances and Lisicki stayed the course.

Kvitova really does have a good draw I think. If she can get through it early I feel she has every chance in the world to win this tournament. At least for my prediction, I hope she does.

Re: Share Your Men's & Women's Fantasy Tennis Champions here!

Tono and I picked Kvitova to win it all, too, laddie.  Hopefully we're not all stumbling around in the dark.

You're closing in on an invitation into the Yoda Cup competition.  With Lisicki on your team, you'll be starting off strong, it appears.

Re: Share Your Men's & Women's Fantasy Tennis Champions here!

When you are predicting matches and players performances in the WTA, everything is a shot in the dark.

The remaining draw looks favorable for Lisicki. I think she could really go deep in this thing if she can contain her emotions and focus on the tasks ahead.

Re: Share Your Men's & Women's Fantasy Tennis Champions here!

I don't see her losing to Doi and probably not to Ivanovic either.  I think Serena will take her out IF she finds her game, but that's a pretty big "IF" at this point.
