Spain will be tough to beat in this years Davis Cup, they beat the USA in Austin, Texas on a fast Hardcourt WITHOUT Rafa and now host France in Spain probably on clay WITH Rafa....whew!
The other semi will be interesting in Serbia though, if Nalbandian can get fit then Argentina could have him and Del Potro playing the singles... not a bad combo that!
Was at the U.S. Davis Cup tie in Austin. Very interesting results for sure.

There's not really much to be excited about in the Davis Cup for you is there, Tono? New Zealand don't have an amazing tennis history, really. And if you have anything bad to say about Australia and our history of tennis, I'll sum up my counter-argument in two words:

Now why would I argue with you on that one CrossCourt huh? Australia has a great Davis Cup record, 2nd best only to the USA, a record to be very proud of indeed.
New Zealand were in the World Group 8 times and had mixed success, we did reach the semifinals of the Davis Cup once in 1982 (lost to France 3-2) but we haven't been back in the World Group since 1991, were you aware of that CC? So I guess you are right, not much of an amazing history really unless you go all the way back to 1910 when Anthony Wilding won Wimbledon 4 times in a row.....lol!
Chris Lewis made the final in 1983 too but ever since Brett Steven retired the tennis in NZ has never got back to it's previous level, sad really!
121 ties played, 8 years in the World Group, 62 years involved, first played in 1924 and prior to 1914 we joined our brothers across the tasman and played as Australasia

Ok, I joined The Vadar Trophey league on that terrible website. Why is it all misspelled?
Gilles Simon vs. Albert Montanes should be one doozy of a first round at the Mercedes Cup.

I had my picks locked for both tournaments yesterday. I signed on a few minutes ago to find out that I needed to pick my team again, despite the tournaments already being underway.
I dropped my laptop and now it's shot, so for the time being I am at the library to get onto the internet....so inconvenient! Tono I got your email and I have accepted the invite to the Vadar league and it does show up in my dashboard so thanks for setting this up for us. I did not get a response from the admins so I am glad that you got a reply. Tono, the man of action!
Aiur, thanks for mentioning that you had to re-pick because I had also made my picks, and I see that they did not stick so I had to pick again. Every one double check to make sure you picks stayed picked!
Same thing happened to me. I went to change them and found out, just about the time Aiur posted about it.

That site needs an overhaul. Montanes won his match over Simon, yet I can still pick him. I figured why not and just changed my pick from Fognini to Montanes.
Picks close at midnight EST of the first day of the tourney. Go figure!
LOL...Yeah that is an anomaly in itself huh, you can change your picks right up till then so for any matches played on the first day you know the result and can get a head start straight away.... definitely needs an overhaul!
But they are keen to improve the site from all accounts so maybe our input can be of some use to them in the future...who knows!

It's a long story why it has been mis-spelt Arvis....LOL!
I originally set the league up as THE VADER TROPHY (Vader League) but when I realised that something had gone wrong I deleted it (many times) and kept trying, anyway I resorted to contacting the admin team at the site and asked why it was so difficult to set up etc... in my haste I emailed them the name of VADAR instead of the correct pronunciation, how they got TROPHY to become TROPHEY is beyond me though, that part I had correct
So in my haste I had set up THE VADAR TROPHY (Vadar League) but now it has become THE VADAR TROPHEY (woody test).....haha!
Sidenote.....they have just emailed me today and given me a new link so everyone can now join THE VADAR TROPHY (Vadar League)....lol... BUT I think we should just stick with the (woody test) one until the end of the year and then set it up correctly in 2012, what does everyone else think??
This is what response they gave me..............woops !! That would be the test one I setup, try this one :

I took the risk of picking Montanes from the start and it seems I didn't have to take the risk at all. 
Well, I'm glad Montanes defeated Simon anyway. I also took the risk of Jurgen Melzer - don't know why, but I did.
Apparently, 26 members picked Simon and 24 picked Montanes. The most popular player was La Monf.
The site is not even keeping the results and scores updated. Shameful.

Yeah they do update them CrossCourt, every 4 hours or so it updates but not on the first day of the tourney for whatever reason.
Until recently you could never see what picks other players had made so that's another subtle improvement, of course you have to wait until your picks have earnt some money before you can see them though.
The site can only get better I guess and at least it gives us something to talk about until the US Open starts huh
Ugh.... I'll just keep coming here to see when I need to pick for new tournaments. I don't think I'm even going to bother looking at my results unless they're particularly remarkable.

The new site looks worse and worse. They promise to post results every 4 hours. Yet the tourneys in Bastad and Stuttgart have been going on for two days and not one result has been posted.
They are not doing that site on a "spare time" basis, as they claim. They're doing it on an "if and when I get around to it" basis -- and they never get around to it.
So far my only bad move was taking Davydenko. Sure, he's having a very scratchy year, but I never thought he'd lose to a wild card entry in the first round! Nicolay! What's up, man???

Ok we are underway now finally..Don and Aiur have grabbed an early lead,...oh btw the admin guys have altered the name of our league too, I have asked if he could change it one more time to THE VADER TROPHY (Vader League) so we will finally have it correct! I know there are a lot of issues with the site but at least they are trying to improve it so that's a good thing
Davydenko....hmmmmm, who thinks this guy is involved in match fixing???? He seems to lose a LOT of matches he should win and usually after racing through the 1st set too, hard luck on Nikolay there Don
I will start a new posting thread under other tournaments so we can get off the Wimby posts, good idea??
