Re: Can anyone outside the Big 4 win?

Greta Arn isn't that bad on grass.  She had a couple of good wins here last year.  That's really the only scary one.  Petko should handle the Dokic/Schiavone winner with relative ease, I think.

I'm hoping for a Petra/Petko semifinal, but that does require Zvonareva, Azarenka and Venus all getting beat.  Among others.

Nice play on the Wms sisters IF they cooperate.  High risk, high reward strategy.  That strategy could leave you at the bottom, though.

I think it's highly likely Li will meet Serena in the quarters, though Radwanska is undeniably good on grass and Bartoli is in very good form.  Also, Li has Lisicki in the second round, and she's on fire.  Should be a interesting.  I like the winner of that part of the draw to make the final over Woz or Sharapova or whoever comes through that part.  So to me at least Li Na has a pretty good shot at making her third straight slam final, which would be amazing.  Her game is MUCH better suited to grass than clay and she just won RG, so you have to consider her a possible winner here.

Re: Can anyone outside the Big 4 win?

Astute thinking there Don.... still what can I expect from a fellow Pet Nuts member! wink
See you have retired Rafter for the new Rafa pic too smile no guesses who you are rooting for in the men's huh!

Re: Can anyone outside the Big 4 win?

I thought Rafa hitting a volley in last year's final was the right thing for at least the early part of Wimbledon.  He has developed one of the best net games in tennis -- and couldn't hit a volley to save his life in '05.

However, I'll definitely bring Rafter back either later in this tourney or just after.

Still, if Rafa won every match he played till he retired, it would bore everybody else to death, but I'd love it!

Is it really feasible that anyone outside the top 4 men will win Wimbledon this year?
You have to think that the eventual champion will come from either Rafa, Roger, Nole or Murray huh!
If it were to happen and someone outside the top 4 won, who do you think it could be people?
Only Roddick, Berdych and Soderling spring to mind, maybe Jo Wilfred if he played out of his tree for two weeks, alas I don't think so though, it's gotta be Rafa, Roger or Nole for me....yet again smile

Presuming Tsonga does well, he'll eventually come up against Federer (presumably). I tip him as going that far, no further.

Re: Can anyone outside the Big 4 win?

Nadal, though, is just as good on grass as anywhere else (except clay obviously). He has fixed every area of his game to become tennis's lethal weapon. He serves better; he volley's better; he's not afraid of going up to the net; and he still has that killer top spin. Murray has the pressure of Wimbledon and the media on his shoulders. Tough... but he's matured as a player now so I think he can overcome those barriers.

Re: Can anyone outside the Big 4 win?

The ONLY player to beat Nadal at Wimbledon from 2006 to present is Roger Federer -- and he hasn't done it since 2007.

Re: Can anyone outside the Big 4 win?

It is looking like a Nadal v Fed final yet again to me.... but I have a feeling that Wimbledon 2011 will spring a few surprises, just not sure which ones....yet! smile

Re: Can anyone outside the Big 4 win?

Tell me about it.  On the men's side the choices are so few that each one is momentous.

On the women's side -- I'd like two more from the top 16 and another unseeded player, please!   ;-D

BTW, Greta Arn pulled out and was replaced by a lucky loser.  Petko's draw just got even easier!!!

How cool is that???

Re: Can anyone outside the Big 4 win?

LOL...Yeah i hear ya re the women's draw Don, I'd be comfortable if I could pick 8 of the top 16:) even then I might leave out someone who could go deep though....sigh!
Not far away now... good luck to everybody, c'mon all you potential Yoda Cup Champions, join the league and test yourself against Don, Charles and myself smile

Yes, Petkovic is meant to win!  It's her time!

But actually the Kohlschreiber loss has killed my confidence.  I feel like I don't really know anything at all anymore and I'm doubting all my picks!
Christina McHale and Makarova are in a 3rd set tiebreak.  If McHale wins, I'll get some confidence back.

Re: Can anyone outside the Big 4 win?

Sorry, not a tiebreak (durr).  But McHale is serving for the match at 7-6!

Re: Can anyone outside the Big 4 win?

Nice pick on McHale.

I have to admit, I thought Hantuchova and Venus more or less picked themselves -- and Nadia Petrova is a very good, aggressive grass court player with a soft draw.  We'll see how it works out for me.

Re: Can anyone outside the Big 4 win?

I agree with you there Don, your women's team is looking strong to me, I picked Makarova instead of Venus....DOH!
After further research I realised that if PETrova can get past Pavlyuchenkova then her path was looking good.... hence me deciding to add her as my unseeded player, Dulgheru would have been my next pick.
Venus waltzed through her 1st Round match, ominous signs perhaps....damn why didn't I pick her sad LOL

Re: Can anyone outside the Big 4 win?

Well nothing has changed after almost a week of Wimby 2011, I still think the men's winner will come from the BIG 3!
Nadal, Djokovic or Federer look like winning another Slam and adding to their current tally....but which one of the three will have their name engraved on the Trophy?

Re: Can anyone outside the Big 4 win?

WHAT ABOUT TOMIC, GUYS!?!?

JK, if Malisse can continue to see off Melzer in routine fashion, then I LOVE his chances against Tomic. *swallows hope* But you never know...
