Topic: Murray's draw

Murray has a vary easy draw, and he could easaly end up in the sami finals. You all now that.I just have a feeling that he dos not deserves sami final by the way he's playing. If he was in position of Djoković,third round against Del Potro would be the end of RG for him.

Re: Murray's draw

I don't know.  Murray always gets it up for the top players.  He's been Nadal's bane on Grand Slam hardcourts for a while now.  He played pretty crap today but still won in straights.  If he knows he's going to have a challenge, he won't go away mentally nearly so often.  I can still see Murray not only making the semis, but WINNING and making the finals!

Re: Murray's draw

Murray doesn't have a PRAYER of making the finals, and I'd say the same about the semis if Almagro and Melzer hadn't been upset...leaving that quarter wide open for Murray and some lucky challenger (though I rather hope Dolgopolov can upset Murray; he's a good claycourter and I need the points :3). But I seriously doubt Murray could best Soderling or Rafa, whoever emerges from the quarters, particularly at the French Open.

Re: Murray's draw

@ Adrian:

Why?  Neither Rafa nor Soderling look like they're playing any better than Murray at the moment.  If that had been Murray playing Nadal today instead of Pablo Andujar, Murray would have won in straights.  A simply ghastly performance by Nadal.  He'll need to step it up if he's going to win this thing.

You say Murray "doesn't have a PRAYER," but who is going to stop him?  Nobody looks like an OBVIOUS favorite in that half.  Besides, had Almagro and Melzer managed to make it to Murray, Murray would have SPANKED them, considering how poorly they both played.  So I don't see how you could be so insistent on this point.

Re: Murray's draw

In my eyes Almagro would be favourit to win that assumed quarter finals against Murray. That's why I put Almagro in my team in the first place. But he disappointed me.He is a bit underachiver in whole career?

Re: Murray's draw

Now now boys.....haha!
It's clear you both have differing opinions on this subject, I'll play the democrat and agree with both of you smile
The way Murray has been playing is hardly giving anyone confidence at the moment but he has got some luck with the draw now that's for sure, if he can up his level a little bit he should make the quarters comfortably and even the semi's, then he will run into Rafa or Soderling im guessing, I think he can beat Soderling on clay but wouldn't expect him to topple Rafa though. Arvis is correct though, all three of them haven't been that impressive so far so it's who step's up and nails it when they need to really.
Rafa looks a bit tired to me, you are right Arvis, he will need to step it up if he wants to win again this year, the best of the men so far IMO are Djokovic, Federer and Ferrer, although the DOG is quietly making his way through the draw too smile It's wide open at the moment, watch for the big guns to step it up in week two though.

Re: Murray's draw

I agree.Much of the tournament is yet to see.If Simon beats Soderling in the fourth round I could be back in the race for the man's tour. smile

Re: Murray's draw

Yeah I agree that Murray, Nadal & Soderling are very lackluster at the moment...but Rafa ought to be able to get it in gear soon enough. And I picked Almagro for the same reason; thought he'd make the semis and play Rafa. Well, I guess nothing ever happens according to plan!

At least not in THIS tournament!  4 qualifiers won today, 3 of them against SEEDED opponents! O.O

Re: Murray's draw

Ball is a ball, there is not much diference there.Roland Garros was always full of suprises. That's my opinion.

Re: Murray's draw

LOL.... You are right there Arvis!
Roland Garros is living up to it's name this year as the Grand Slam of Upsets huh, hard to pick a winner now even though we are down to 32 players in the men's and women's.
As usual the women's is wide open, Wozniacki, Azarenka, Sharapova, Stosur, Kvitova, Schiavone, Jankovic, Li Na, Zvonareva and Petkovic, I think one of these 10 will win it this year ....you guys think I have a chance?? LMAO! Maybe Kuznetsova or Radwanska will make a fool of me.....??
The men's well it's looking like one of the usual 3 suspects will win it again, Rafa, Novak or Roger.
Djokovic is probably favourite at this stage but you would have to give Murray, Soderling and Ferrer some chance also but they have never won a GS before so I think it will be one of the big 3 personally.
Be sorta refreshing if we get a new GS winner though huh, looking forward to seeing how it pan's out in the next week or so.

Re: Murray's draw

Maybe I don't now too much. But if Radwanska wins and makes a fool out of you,I will eat my socks or what ever. smile

LOL!  Well said, Guga! big_smile

Yeah, the way Kuznetsova is playing, she could be a spoiler again and win her third French Open, which I think would be lovely since I have a soft spot for the homely Russian.  But Radwanska?  That would be like... I don't know, Bartoli or Dulko winning the whole thing.  But, Dulko just beat Stosur so WHO KNOWS??

Re: Murray's draw

I was kidding about Radwanska and Kuznetsova guys, I forgot to put a...haha after their names, I was saying that I practically had the field covered except for maybe Radwanska and Kuznetsova that's all.
You are right Arvis, who indeed knows, Stosur is now gone, who's next? Wozniacki?
Azarenka and Jankovic are both playing well, im picking one of them at this stage smile

Re: Murray's draw

I now that you were kidding.I just made a joke. smile

Re: Murray's draw

Thought so Guga smile I was going to say i'll eat your sock's with you if she win's also, hpe they are not too smelly....haha!
Getting back to Wolmas comment above, I think the harder balls are making a differerence this year, the rallies seem to be a lot quicker, almost like a hard court at times, I remember longer slower rallies with players having to move their opponent around before they try and hit a winner, not this year, winners are coming off the serve and anything short seems to be put away with a minimum of fuss.
Making it tougher for Rafa I think, he can't just rally and rally and grind, he is going to have to play more aggressively, the bigger hitters have a good chance against him this year I think.

Re: Murray's draw

No,they don't smell much,I do wash my legs sometimes. big_smile   And about that balls. Are those new balls going to be used only on RG or on every tournament from now on?I actually like hard cout tennis,so it's fine by me.And I'm not worried about Rafa,he will be at his best on the secound week. But I'm still hoping that Nole will be the champion. smile

Re: Murray's draw

So, Murray got hurt today. Not really sure what to do now. Might have to pick Troicki to win that match.

Re: Murray's draw

Yeah if Murray's injury is bad enough he might not even play that match against Troicki, hope not but dodgy ankles on clay is not a good recipe for success.
If it can be strapped and not bother him too much he might be ok but if he has trouble with his movement then Troicki will take advantage of it, im also not sure what to do with that match.

Re: Murray's draw

What about the balls? You don't now or what?

Re: Murray's draw

yeah I'm picking Troicki. He had an impressive win over Dolgopolov anyhow, who I thought was a sure thing to beat the Serb...

Re: Murray's draw

I played competitive tennis for 20 years, unfortunately I didn't make the pro's though....haha!
But I can tell you that even at the district level I played at that there was a subtle difference required when we played a different ball. We used the Penn ball for a number of years which was great for serving with and hard and fast, before that it was the Slazenger ball which was softer and required heavier groundstrokes, I found the Wilson ball to be in between the other too.
The top pro's would get used to them pretty quickly I think but even Novak is saying that they should have been playing with the Babolat ball for a few torny's before Roland Garros just to get used to them, it appears that the ball is quite hard and has been favouring the bigger servers and shotmakers, I think everyone in the draw would be used to them by now but it just may be enough to help certain players get that extra edge, certainly gives Ljubicic a chance against Rafa but I think the Spanish Bull will find a way to win.
