Topic: Mens and Womens Champions?? Pick now and show your skills! :)

Ok everyone lets pick your mens and womens champions before we head into the 2nd week of the Open.

Mens - Sticking with Federer although Murray is in good touch, I predict this will be the final!

Womens - This is tougher, Ill go on a hunch and predict Sharapova to return to GS glory, meeting Venus or Clijsters in the final!
I have a feeling Zvonareva will be a good chance too, womens champ could be one of 9 players still I believe.

Ok people have your say and enjoy the tennis smile

I'll stick to Federer and the winner of the Wozniacki-Sharapova match.

And I'll stick to Murray over Federer and Clijsters over Sharapova.

Though, really, one must admit that Sharapova and the Woz are playing like champs while everyone else stumbles around in the dark by comparison.  Still, on the big stage, I like the REAL big babe.  Go, Mom!!!  Clijsters rules.

I went to the Open twice this week and Soderling is looking great. I would say that Either Soderling or Federer will take the title this year. As for the women, Clijsters is my pick as well.

Now that Murray is out, Rafa has a clear path to the final.  He should have little problem with Feliciano Lopez.  His toughest test will be in the quarters against the Verdasco/Ferrer winner, but he should prevail as he usually does against other Spanish players.  Then the semis will be easy.  It's hard to imagine who among Wawrinka, Querrey, Youzhny and Robredo might give Rafa problems.  Perhaps Youzhny, if he were completely on his game.  Certainly not Robredo.  Not Querrey.  Wawrinka would have to take it to a new level and keep it there, and he may be doing just that.

Still, looks like Rafa in the final to me.

Federer is on his game.  He has owned Soderling, the one notable exception notwithstanding.  Djokovic could pose some problems, perhaps.  Doubtful, but maybe.

Of course, someone unexpected could come through.  It could be a Youzhny/Monfils final.   ;-D

New, updated men's final forecast: interesting, with a high probability of Nadal/Federer.

Agree with you Don, its certainly looking like a Fed v Rafa final now although there is always room for upsets as we have already seen with Murray being bundled out.
Rafa has an easier looking draw now than what Roger does so look for the upset to come on Rafa's side, usually when it looks easy is when the upset comes, although im with you on who might be capable of beating Rafa, I think Lopez has the best form on a fast court, if not him the only other one capable is Wawrinka but he will be tiring by the time he meets Rafa.
Federer will beat Soderling, could have a bit of trouble with Djokovic in the semis but I think he will get through unless Djokovic decides to have his best day of the year, he is very solid Djokovic and will need to play at a consistently high level to beat Roger in New York though.
I think it would be great to see Roger v Rafa in the final but we still have a lot of good tennis to go before we see that.
My hunches havent been fairing too well in th Open so far so that doesnt bode well for the dream final I guess....lol!
Enjoy the quarters everyone, oh Wozniacki v Clisters in the womens now smile

Yes.  Hard to imagine anything other than Wozniacki/Clijsters.

Feliciano Lopez is VERY much better on grass than on hard courts, where he's a lifetime 50/50 player.  No problems for Rafa with Lopez.  If Rafa's struggling, it takes four sets.  If not, an easy three setter.

Verdasco has the potential to take the match over if he's on.  He could win it.  Of course, he'll probably lose it instead.  Ferrer has virtually no chance of beating Rafa.  He would have to play the match of his life.

Youzhny has occasionally given Rafa trouble in the past, and he could do it again.  Possibly.  Maybe Wawrinka can challenge Rafa -- if he serves well and if he can play at a high level for the entire match.

Djokovic is the sleeper in the whole thing.  Wouldn't surprise me if he won the tourney out of nowhere.  Still, odds are it's Fed/Rafa yet again.  And who can complain about that?
