Almost! I guess in hindsignt the perfect final choice was Nadal/Djokovic. Who would have guessed that Djokovic would take out Federer in 5 sets? Crazy.

If he really had a serious injury then it was an amazing feat to get to the QF round of Wimbledon with an injury. Let's hope he can recover before the US Open.

Was he a sore loser? That's a tough question because he did not give the usual nice loser talk to the press ("My opponent deserved the win...", "I was outplayed...", etc), but Federer has always been very blunt and perhaps insensitive. To get to his level you have to want to win everything and you have to believe in yourself beyond any level we can imagine. So I think he had to assume that he would win without the injuries. If I was Berdych I would have been pissed, but I think it just came out the wrong way at the wrong time.

It was an amazing performance from Nadal to win the final easily. A very well deserved win. He would have beat anyone today, and he proved that he is the best player in the world right now. If he stays healthy he can easily win another 4 or 5 slams in his career. He also seems like a nice person, and that counts for something too.

Soderling and Nadal are playing amazing tennis. So if they both make it to the finals (which is very likely), then who will win? Nadal is great, but at this time I would pick Soderling to win that match. Maybe i'm crazy, but he dismantled Fed the other day and looked unbeatable.

I'm very excited because Federer has a great chance to win another slam and make history yet again. I hope he can do it.

What happened??? I had del Potro winning the whole tournament, and he didn't even get to the QFs. I did not get to see the match, but I see it was a 5 setter. Anyone have more details on the match? Was del Potro playing well or did he let down?

Given how well del Potro played at the US Open I think it's his tournament to win or lose. If he can stay mentally healthy I think he can win his 2nd slam.

Verdasco is good, but I don't think he will get to the semi's this year. There are just too many good players in the draw this year, and he is only 9th in the world right now. Also, isn't he mainly a clay court player?

I was shocked that Davydenko won. Totally shocked. Thay guy has not won anything big in his career, and Del Potro is on fire after his US Open win. What an upset.

Federer did act a bit badly in the match, but this is the US Open final and the emotions are very high. The chair ump acted like a complete unprofessional idiot - you never tell a player to shup up when they have a legitimate complaint. Especially when it is the greatest player who ever played the game. So I forgive that outburst.

As to Federer choking, I disagree. He did not play his best, that's for sure, but as the match went on Federer's level of play was the same and del Potro got much better. How does anyone handle a 110mph forehand that hits the line? Unbelievable stuff. I would not call this a great match, but it was very entertaining up till the 5th set when it became obvious that Federer would lose.

Del Potro's reaction to winning was very nice, and his emotion he showed I think won him a lot of fans. I hope he can keep up this level of play - so often someone can play like that for a year or so and then they disappear, so let's hope he is for real.

This is a hard one. Federer played a great match against Djokovic, but Del Potro was on fire against Nadal. I'm a big Federer fan, but I have a feeling that this will be Del Potro's day. I think Del Potro will win in 4 sets.

Just want to say congrats to Kim Clijsters. What an amazing story. I cannot believe that she was able to win the US Open after being away from the sport for years. She played at such a high level and was so consistent, and the final was great. Well Done!

it sounds like an amazing match, and I'm sorry I mised it - but it's so hard to watch all of the great tennis. there must be 10 hours a day of coverage. are there any good ways to watch the matches online after they are done?

Wow, I'm really surprised that this has not happened in over 35 years. That's crazy.

I would be surprised if anyone thinks he can win the open. He's an amazing player, but the hard courts are going to quickly hurt his knees.

I was impressed with Sharapova in the French. She played MUCH better than her rank, and seems to have made a good recovery from her injury. I agree with bobstheman that she will be back in the top 20 soon, probably before the US Open.

There is an actual case of someone with artificial legs who almost got into the olympics. There was a lot of debate over this and if this would be fair to competitors with human legs. Here is an article on him:

Soderling played some amazing tennis yesterday. Rafa was not playing 100%, but he was not playing bad tennis either. I was shocked at how many risky, hard shots Soderling hit. I'm not sure of the game stats, but he must have hit a lot more winners than Rafa.

Nope - his knees will give out before he gets to #10. He is amazing to watch though so I hope he proves me wrong. Pete's record is amazing, but how long will it last?

The French is my favorite - great tennis, totally different surface that favors different type of play than grass or hard court. I like all of the other slams equally. They are all exciting and great fun to watch.
