Topic: Is this anyone's favourite/least liked Grand Slam?

In my opinion it goes Wimbledon, French, Australian and then the US Open. But I was wondering what others thought?

Is the French a favourite or is it at the bottom of people's lists?

I can imagine it being quite popular because its one of the more televised ones, whereas I usually dont hear much mention of the US or Australian Open in the media etc. Certainly not as much as Wimbledon or France.

Re: Is this anyone's favourite/least liked Grand Slam?

I am a huge fan of the French Open - that has to be my favorite because the clay has such a big impact on play and requires more thought and planning than the faster surfaces. Then the US Open (becuase I go every year and love it), then Wimbledon and then the Australian.

The French is great!

Sophie, it's funny that you don't get much US Open coverage. I'm in NYC, and we get tons of coverage and it's amazing!! The Australian is nice because it's the beginning of the tennis season. I used to not like Wimbledon too much because the points lasted three shots (serve, return, volley) and the rain delays made it hard to watch before dvr's. But it's better now that the grass is slower and points are more exciting.

Love the French. Clay makes things interesting! Australian is not for me, it's early in the season, and does not have the character of the French or Wimbledon.

Re: Is this anyone's favourite/least liked Grand Slam?

Ive only ever seen US open on youtube! Unless I subscribe for sports on Sky! So to be honest I don't know much about it.

Wimbledon just has that amazing atmosphere, it just reminds me of summer! Even the rain delays; they are an integral part of our summer! Until I was a certain age I had no idea tennis was played on any other surface as I only saw Wimbledon and my tennis club only had grass ones.

And the clay certainly makes the French exciting, and it just feels...glamorous.

Re: Is this anyone's favourite/least liked Grand Slam?

The French is my favorite - great tennis, totally different surface that favors different type of play than grass or hard court. I like all of the other slams equally. They are all exciting and great fun to watch.

Re: Is this anyone's favourite/least liked Grand Slam?

In all their wisdom Aussie free-to-air broadcasters have refused to show the French Open so it is my least favourite at the moment - not for the tennis, but for the fact that I have to go to way more effort just to see a match.

Re: Is this anyone's favourite/least liked Grand Slam?

Wimbledon is the only one you can watch on normal telly (BBC) in England; the others you have to use an interactive service on the BBC which you may not have or is often down, and if they aren't doing that then you have to subscribe to a sports channel. I dont even know about the US open, I think it is purely on the subscription sports channels

What we must go through to enjoy the sport of tennis!

Anyway, it's worth it.

Re: Is this anyone's favourite/least liked Grand Slam?

Yep I'm with Crooksy Down Under so no luck with the French. Get coverage of all the others, except the time difference thing makes them all hard down here.

Aussie open has to be the favourite for that reason - I'm usually on holidays at that time so tennis, cricket and lazeing about the place make for a good summer

Re: Is this anyone's favourite/least liked Grand Slam?

My rankings:

1. Roland Garros
2. Wimbledon
3. US Open
4. Australia

I don't like Australia because of the new hard courts that can be seen at the US Open, and the match start times. The matches start at 3:30 AM local time where I am at, and it is almost impossible to watch them live.

I would love to see a Grand Slam that employs carpet, but then every court would have to be indoors. I can still dream, though.
