Topic: What happened to Serena?

Did you see what happened at the end of last night's match? Serena lost it and Clijsters was awarded the match winning point by the ref. I'm not sure how I feel about this. Should someone win a match like that? Serena was out of line, but does the punishment fit the crime?

Re: What happened to Serena?

She was definitely out of line. Doesnt matter whether it was the final point in the final, or the first point in the first round, rules are rules. Penalty points are there for a reason, and she had already been warned for throwing her racket. Match points arent exempt, surely? Cljisters did all the work up until then.

Imagine what would have happened if it had been a male player who had done that? god knows what could have followed.

Re: What happened to Serena?

I just saw to the replay, and Serena said "I'm going to shove this ball down your F*%@%?! throat..." and approched the linesperson waving her racket in a very aggressive way. She said many other things that were quite bad, so she deserved to have the point taken away from her.

BUT, the linesperson is an idiot - calling foot faults is the hardest things to call, and it was soooo close. It should never have been called a foot fault. But this is no excuse for that type of behavior, so the punishment does fit.

Re: What happened to Serena?

Yeah, she deserved it. It was totally uncalled for behavior. So many kids watch these matches and look up to these players, so they need to act respectful while on the court. Chadshack is right - the call was stupid. But Serena lost her cool and deserved to lose.

Re: What happened to Serena?

she sounds like a total bully, and she should not be allowed to get away with that kind of behavior. I can understand that she was in the moment, but when you rise to that level of excellence in a sport, you typically also develop more control over your emotions.

Re: What happened to Serena?

what serena did was completely unnessacery. she was neck-and-neck with clijsters through the whole match just through away her chance of winnin by breaking her racquet and cussing out the judge. just plain stupid
