I remember that match against Ivanisevic, and I did not want Goran to win in any way. Something about him that just turns me off.

I didn't realize that he was only 6'1" - for some reason he seemed taller. Great new photo, especially the hair - as you can see we fixed that issues (again). Let's hope this is fixed for good now.

OK. my temporary Rafter photo showed up at the Forum. Well done. If you haven't seen it, I see that Tien's Team has the same photo, so check it out.

I changed back to the original Rafter photo and immediately it came up at the Forum.

Glitch fixed. Congratulations!

Oops. I changed the photo and now I have no photo at all in the Forum, though once again, it worked fine in the Profile section.

So the glitch remains and is more complex than perhaps you suspected(?). I should have left well enough alone.

Damn!

Thanks for fixing that.

Actually, Pat was only 6'1", so he really wasn't all that big -- but his reflexes were so catlike he was legendary for his quickness. That's why he got all the rebounds in the pickup basketball games. When he played sports, he played a lot bigger than he really was.

By the way, I used to call his style of play "Samurai tennis," which I think sorta captured his approach, except that a Samurai would not be having such obvious fun and certainly wouldn't be such a nice guy. I called it "Samurai" mostly because he always came forward, even off weak shots, and played with utter fearlessness. I'd even say he reeked of courage if that didn't sound so bad.

Of course, the hairdo contributed to the effect. He had really long hair for much of the peak of his career and usually wore it up on top of his head, cascading down. It was undeniably very cool. Combined with the white marks (sunscreen) on his cheekbones, he looked every bit the warrior.

The only time I ever remember seeing Pat play when he was obviously NOT enjoying it was his Wimbledon final against Goran Ivanisevic. I think part of the problem was that Pat felt strongly that Goran should have no chance against him, so he got increasingly frustrated as the match wore on and eventually frustration turned to anguish.

I also liked Goran quite a bit -- well, the "good Goran" anyway -- so I had terribly mixed emotions during that match. You had to feel wonderful for Goran, seeing him finally come through in a big one, and his joy was contagious -- but at the same time watching Pat in such obvious emotional pain was heart wrenching.

There have never been two players in a Wimbledon final who both wanted the win so badly. For both of them it had been the only goal that REALLY mattered for longer than they could remember. Pat would have gladly traded both his U.S. Open crowns and making it to #1 in the world for a win at Wimbledon, and felt he had made a truly great deal.

One of the great matches of all time IMHO. Not Nadal over Federer in the Wimbledon final by any stretch of the imagination -- but a match for the ages nonetheless.

All fixed - your photo reminds me of how much I liked watching Rafter play. He was big, but moved well and seemed to have a good time out there.

We do the default photo to "encourage" people to change it and add in their own. The photos make the site more interesting, so we thought we would make the default photo fun but just annoying enough to get people to want to change it. Seems to have worked well :)

Personally, I don't think there should be a default photo at all -- but that's just me.

If you're gonna have a photo of Mac, though, I agree it should be an early one, complete with the Afro and headband. He actually looked as goofy as he was. And, of course, since he was pissed off pretty much all the time (and played better when he was), the facial expression captures the essence of the young "Superbrat."

For me, the classic Mac was calling Wimby "the pits of the world" and thereby being the first champ not offered membership in the club (for awhile, at least). Now THAT I liked.

Still, I need my Rafter photo soon, OK?

My profile includes a picture of Pat Rafter lifting the trophy after winning the U.S. Open.

Pat Rafter is my favorite player ever. He was a great gentleman who won the Edberg award multiple times. I loved it when he threw up a bad toss: he always, without fail, said "Sorry, mate!"

He was also an incredibly great serve and volley player for a guy who wasn't all that big. He played with great courage, heart, quickness and finesse. In the pickup basketball games between the tour players, Rafter got nearly all the rebounds. He was a total stud.

So I just posted under "French Open" about some of my picks. My message came up and next to it is that dreadful picture of the young John McEnroe. Why, in the name of God, did you use that as a default??? Anyway, whatever you do, get that damned photo away from my post and give me Rafter!!!
