US OPEN - Yoda Cup Bookmakers Odds!!

Here is a bit of fun everyone....

HAN SOLO BETTING AGENCY LTD have just announced their betting odds for the US Tennis Open YODA CUP competition in Flushing Meadows, New York starting next week!
Head Bookie...(or should that be "Wookie") Chew "BUCKa" stated that his odds were based on previous performance in the hotly contested competition but he also took into account GSFT history and the fresh new rivals on the scene too.

Here are the latest odds for the US OPEN "YODA CUP 2011"!

TONO - $3.00
GUGA - $3.50
DON - $4.00
AIUR - $7.00
ARVIS - $10.00
BACKHANDPASS - $10.00
CHARLES - $12.00
WOLMAS - $16.00
ADRIAN - $16.00
CROSSCOURT - $20.00
SOPHIE G - $25.00

In Chewie's eyes the defending "Yoda Cup Champion" TONO has to start a 3-1 favourite but only just from GUGA at $3.50, Guga wiped the floor with everyone in the GSFT mens singles competition at Wimbledon so he will be tough to beat..DON was a very close 2nd behind Tono at Wimbledon and is expected to do well again in New York, he is at 4-1.
AIUR wasn't too far away in London and has a history of some good results in GSFT so he could be good value at 7-1 while ARVIS will look to improve on his performance at Wimbledon, he along with debutant newcomer BACKHANDPASS will provide the favourites with a few headaches I'm sure, both are at 10-1.
Hometown Grand Slam boy CHARLES could be the "Darkhorse' at Flushing Meadows, he has had good results in the past and is one for longer odds at 12-1.
Newcomers WOLMAS and ADRIAN will look to prove the bookmakers wrong as they both make their debut in the Yoda Cup competition...both are at longer odds of 16-1.
CROSSCOURT picked up the dreaded "Wooden Spoon" at Wimbledon and he will have to show huge improvement here if he is to take the title, his odds reflect that at 20-1.
The outsider of the field is SOPHIE G who is a bit of an unknown quantity, she will have to be taken on trust but at 25-1 she could be worth the gamble!

HAN SOLO may well be told to get his hand off it but he knows that when it comes to hotly contested competition...ANYTHING CAN HAPPEN!!

[h]YODA CUP CREW ON TOP AGAIN[/h]
New Yoda Cup member DRAGAN -- formerly known as GUGA -- WON the men's overall at Wimbledon.

Defending Yoda Cup champion TONO correctly predicted all 4 finalists and both winners. No one will do that at the US Open. TONO set the bar high.

No problem. AIUR is currently FIRST OVERALL in both WOMEN'S and COMBINED!!!

UPDATE!!! TONO, who is merely 4th in Yoda Cup itself, is the probable WINNER of the OBI WAN CANNOLI! TONO marches on toward the title of EL CANNOLISTA GRANDE!!! As you will recall, this is a league joined by no fewer than 17 glory hog wannabes with high early scores. Take that, you sneaky interlopers!!!

[h]KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK, GENTLEMEN!!! YODA CUP RULES!!!!!!![/h]

Is American tennis experiencing a mini revival??

With the good results seen at this years US Open are we seeing a "mini' revival from American tennis players??
One quarter of the mens round of 16 are American...Fish, Isner, Young & Roddick!!
Only Serena remains in the women's draw and we all know how good she is...but we have seen some encouraging performances from Christina McHale & Sloane Stephens too! I think McHale could be a goodie :)

Or is this ONLY bcoz they are playing on US soil and in front of their home fans that we have seen a number of great efforts at Flushing Meadows, all too often we see the likes of Harrison, Bogomolov, Sweeting, Blake, Russell and even the the bigger names ONLY doing well in the USA.
I know all players lift and play better when they feel at home...but apart from the "old" Andy Roddick and occassionally Mardy Fish, John Isner and sometimes Sam Querrey the rest almost seem to wait for the American hard court season to make some noise....for example..are we going to see some more self belief out of a Donald Young after this tournament?? I'd like to think so, I'd like to see him back it up in Australia for example...Tomic did it at Wimbledon after performing well at home....it's about time we saw another TOP American player burst onto the scene...who is talented enough to do it, and more importantly who WANTS it the most??

What's your thoughts everyone??

Soderling Glitch

Today anyone who had Soderling on their team received an email saying that he has withdrawn from the tournament and asking them to log in and select a replacement player. This is the first time for us that a player has withdrawn after the tournament has started (on day 3!), and so our system automatically sent our standard email. Unfortunately we cannot actually allow people to select a player after the tournament has started because this would give an unfair advantage. But there is a benefit to those who had him: if Soderling had played sick he would have surely lost his 1st round match and this would cost you 16 points (-16 points for a 1st round loss), but instead he is simply removed from your team and you get zero points for him. This is much better than what happened to those of us with Li Na on our teams - she tanked in the 1st round and we all lost 16 points.

I understand that this was confusing to many of you and I apologize. I hope you enjoy the rest of the tournament.

Thanks,
Charles

Yes, folks, the draws are out and there are some interesting first round matches on the men's side:
Davydenko v. #32 Dodig
Karlovic v. Gonzo
Dimitrov v. #7 Monfils
Ryan Harrison v. #27 Cilic
Kohlschreiber v. #23 Stepanek
Baghdatis v. #28 Isner
Gulbis v. #16 Youzhny

To me, at least, the only one of those matches with a prohibitive favorite is Stepanek. Arguably Monfils also, but I'm not so sure about that one.

Can Rafa Nadal possibly defend his US Open at Flushing Meadows in a few weeks??
He seem's down on confidence to me and dare I say it almost a little unsure and uncertain of his form right now...does he have a niggling injury that we are not aware of....or has Djokovic's hot run this year really knocked his confidence somewhat???
Rafa is such a fighter and loves the big stage so I guess you can never really count him out in the Slams but I would actually be surprised to see him win again in New York this year!!
