Tsonga Earns Star Billing In Paris

Jun 2, 2015

Jo-Wilfried Tsonga is the toast of the town in Paris at the moment, the 30 year old Frenchman has continued his dream run in the 2015 French Open at Roland Garros by ousting the 5th seed Kei Nishikori in a five-set quarter-final, Tsonga has had an injury plagued season so far in  2015 but the popular native from Le Mans has put all that behind him by blazing his way to the semi-finals of his home event for the second time in his career, it remains to be seen whether Jo-Willy has what it takes to progress through to his second ever Grand Slam final but the Parisian faithful will certainly be spurring their man on loudly and proudly in an effort to get him across the line.

Tsonga will square off against the 2014 Australian Open champion Stan Wawrinka in the French Open semi-finals after the Stanimal brushed aside his friend and No.2 seed Roger Federer in a rather one-sided quarter-final clash, Wawrinka defeated Federer in straight sets to end the Swiss maestro’s hopes of another deep run at Roland Garros, the last four match-up between Tsonga and Wawrinka should be a colourful and entertaining match for the French crowd to really get their teeth and voice into, could the Parisian crowd play a significant role in helping Jo become the first Frenchman to make the big dance in Paris since Henri Leconte back in 1988, perhaps they ca.

Tsonga has earned star billing with the local fans over the past 10 days and his star will shine even brighter if he can become the first Frenchman to make a Roland Garros final in 27 years, standing in his way will be Stan the man Wawrinka who himself has had a mixed year on the ATP World Tour due to inconsistent form and off court personal issue’s, the semi-final match-up between Tsonga and Wawrinka promises to be full and colour and noise and it will get even noisier if a chap who goes by the nickname of “Ali” can produce a knockout performance for the home crowd.
