New Breed Of Talent Is On The Horizon

Sep 3, 2014

The new breed of tennis talent appears to now be on the horizon, ready to push on in 2015 and announce themselves fully on the respective ATP and WTA World Tours, Milos Raonic, Grigor Dimitrov and Kei Nishikori have all made great strides this season with Raonic and Dimitrov both claiming semi-final spots at Wimbledon earlier in the year, Nishikori now has a chance to make the last four at Flushing Meadows against Stan Wawrinka while the new breed of women have also announced their arrival on the scene.

Canadian Eugenie Bouchard made the Wimbledon final this year at the tender age of 20 and in New York we have seen 21 year old Serbian Aleksandra Krunic and 17 year old Swiss Belinda Bencic reach the round of 16 and quarter-finals respectively, it remains to be seen whether the above-named players can push on to grab their own piece of Grand Slam glory in the future but they have at least announced themselves as future possible contenders.

As tennis fans, we have been blessed throughout the past decade to enjoy the numerous champions of our sport, the likes of Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray have been dominant in the men’s events for what seems like a very long time, and the women’s major events have often been the playground of Serena Williams, Victoria Azarenka, Maria Sharapova, Li Na and Petra Kvitova.

Season 2015 could finally see a changing of the guard but it probably won’t happen all at once I’m guessing, look for the status quo to continue a little bit longer but it shouldn’t surprise anyone too much if one or two of the new breed fully announce their arrival on the tennis scene next season with a major win, as of now though, it seems that the status quo will remain.
