Will Anyone Other Than Federer Or Djokovic Win The US Open?

With the 2012 edition of the US Tennis Open almost upon us all tennis fans will soon be discussing their favoured players and who they think will get their hands on the silverware this year, in the men’s singles competition the most pertinent question would seem to be “will anyone other than Roger Federer or Novak Djokovic win the US Open”? We have not had a Grand Slam men’s singles champion other than Federer, Djokovic or Rafael Nadal since Juan Martin Del Potro’s upset victory over the Swiss Maestro in the 2009 US Open final.

With Nadal unable to play in this year’s event due to injury, the likelihood of the champion once again being named either Federer or Djokovic seems highly probable, outside of the world’s top two players Olympic Champion Andy Murray appears to be fancied by most tennis pundits as having the best chance to dethrone the duo and claim his first Grand Slam title, but the big question on most people’s lips is “will he”? Winning the Olympic Gold Medal in London would have done wonders for the Scot’s confidence and he was rightfully praised for his victory and efforts at SW19 recently, however he is currently 0 from 4 when it comes to the big dance at Grand Slam events and glory at the Olympic Games will not guarantee his success in New York.

The next best contender seem’s to be Del Potro but he is trying to shake off the effects of an annoying left wrist injury that he picked up in Cincinnati and he will need to be at his very best to claim his more »
